Jantjes out for 3 months

Conrad Jantjes will undergo an operation on his Achilles tendon on Tuesday afternoon and will be out for approximately three months.

The Cats fullback has been struggling with this injury since the start of the Super 14 and has never been able to run flat out. “I have really been struggling to get into form because of the injury,” he told Suparugby.com. “I saw Fief Ferreira in February and he said I will be fine in three weeks, but the pain never cleared up. It has been uncomfortable right through the Super 14 and it is now time to fix the problem.”

The operation will last for about 45 minutes during which the Achilles will be cleaned out. According to the doctor, Jantjes should rest for two weeks after which he will start with rehabilitation, Suparugby reported.

The Lions’ Currie Cup prospects are starting to look bleak with lock Alten Hulme also out for eight months and André Pretorius is already ruled out.

Springbok coach Jake White was very disappointed to hear about Jantjes’ injury which is weird as his assistant, Allister Coetzee is the Cats backline coach and should have been aware of Jantjes’ situation.

With all the injuries in the Springbok squad White was sure to need the talented Jantjes. “If everything goes according to plan I should be able to play a club game after eight weeks and will be able to join the Currie Cup in August,” Jantjes said optimistically.

Why is Jake dissapointed? He didn’t pick him in his 45

yoda, he didnt pick him cos he thought jantjes lost a bit of pace. If we compare his performances of this yr to last yrs, there is a major difference. Poor Lions fans are gonna be crying when their team dont make the semis this yr.

    Love the nick redcard

Than why did you play S14 if you know that you had a injury ?

Would like to know why on earth the Lions/Cats moved Jantjies to the wing to make place for Rose in the first place? He is the superior all round no 15 at the Lions ( superior tactical player and better defender that Rose).

Never mind Alistair Coetzee, the Bok management should be in regular touch with all the potential Bok players. FFS, they’ve all got e-mail and cellphones.

Will Carling was calling all his squad in 1991 already. How far behind are we??

I like Jantjes style of play. If his injury was troubling him, let’s hope that was the reason for lack of pace. Get well soon and get back in the squad Conrad.

A number of players have been playing injured. Why?

To me it seems as though only Jake White does proper tests on players, at this advanced stage of the season. What are the ‘super’ coaches doing?
Players are apparently greedy for match fees. Coaches are under pressure to pick their best xv and lose sight of the bigger picture. White is right . general conditioning and the monitoring thereof seems to be of a half arsed nature.

Who cares about Jantjes, what is happening with Johan Roets?

The game is well and truly up when you’re a quota player and still you get the flick! Might as well have an operation to make the pain go away.

Cos one coach or selectors omitt a player one season does not mean his game is up. Unless you are a believer in everyone elses opinion and not your own.
You wont sell your opinion to us Tackles not even for the S14 cup.
