Chavhanga sent home

Springbok wing Tonderai Chavhanga has been released from the national squad training camp in Bloemfontein.

The speedster joined the training camp with an unresolved right groin muscle tear, which requires further treatment and rehabilitation, an SA Rugby statement said.

He will undergo immediate medical treatment and rehabilitation under supervision of his provincial team’s medical staff in Cape Town.

Bryan Habana (ankle sprain) and Bakkies Botha (lower limb muscle injury) were both examined by the Springbok medical team.

Both players are receiving medical care and rehabilitation and should resume training on successful completion of a series of fitness tests.

This poor guy has hardly played any rugby, since becoming available for SA. He is injury prone– pulls a muscle running out of the tunnel, HOW COME??

It seems to happen to a lot of our black players, especially in cricket. The only one that seems to have got through is Makaya Ntini. All the others apparently suffer from a younger life poor diet, lack of proper vitamins , proteins, etc. This apparently can cause premature breakdowns in muscle and bone strenghth. The same process that happens to birds of prey called rickets. It has happened to Ngam, etc.

    Kyer
Do you know if the soccer players also suffer the same problems.

  • 9.kyer: Reply to this comment

Not sure about soccer. Most of our best soccer players do come out of the greater Gauteng area, which generally did not suffer as severe food problems as say The Eastern Cape or Zimbabwe rural areas. Judging the state of our football and results, I don’t want to comment.

Thats one injury that I dont mind, feel sorry for Chavhanga. Not his fault that he is in the squad ahead of better players

He should not been there IN THE FIRST PLACE. good riddance.

Shame. At least he had a chance. He could probably be the whole Zimbabwean team by himself. What happened to their rugby?

Call dr Noakes, how can this guy suffer from burnout ???

Don’t know why he was there in the first place.

Maybe now a winger who can at least catch and tackle will be selected.

either of the twins will do.

    thats not bad news,

maybe we can get a wing who can catch a high ball and kick a ball.

i know jake says nothing beats speed, but what use is speed when you are knocking on in your own 22?

i think you’re being a bit hard on the oke….All the Wp players were ****…. especially their backs, so I believe JW can turn Chavanga in a try scoring machine!! The Ndungane twins are not set for international stage yet…

Good comment Provvas, he is a good prospect. I just think he needs to play more and maybe this break will do him good. Problem is that if he recovers and starts to play for WP he will be coached by Fester.

Now that can not be a good thing for any player…

Provvas yes he can change him into a try scoring machine. He just needs to teach him how to catch a bloody ball.

Perhaps Gus has had a negative impact on him down in Cape Town…

all you guys are forgetting how good this guy was when in his debut season last year. the guy has serious pace, on par with habana, and can tackle like a machine. he just has to work on his defensive positioning.
he’s not in form now because he keeps on getting injured. all his injuries over the past year have been lower body, probably due to getting big too quickly in the gym. jake wanted him big and fast and it seems as he’s stuffed his body up trying to do this.

He was under the supervision of the WP medical staff for about a year now, if they could not get it right yet why the hell do they think they will now?

So what is the REAL reason? of course they need to fabricate a sound reason for sending a quota back packing, but that’s not the reason
Chavanga looked pretty healthy to me last outing, as always avoided any tackle or being tackled.

do you call outpacing everyone and scoring a try as “avoiding being tackled”. I saw chavanga at school back in zimbabawe.he was a tackling machine and a running machine. jake is the right person to coach get him to be a world beater. He will come back soon enough and destroy!
