England hammer World XV

The Springboks have nothing to fear from the World XV. Bob Dwyer’s side were smashed 46-19 by an England XV at Twickenham on Sunday.

The World XV to play against the Boks on Saturday will be a carbon copy of the side that started against an England side, which included 15 of the touring party to Australia. And typical of these kinds of matches, it was the mix and match mob who played with no structure and no real purpose. Nothing will change in Johannesburg.

The names Dwyer put out in the guise of the Baa-baas represented yesterday’s heroes, with the odd exception in Carlos Spencer and Bruce Reihana, who have excelled in English club rugby this season.

The visitors scored three tries, but England responded with six of their own and flyhalf Ollie Barkley helped himself to 21 points.

England led 13-0, then trailed 14-13, then led 18-14 at halftime and then trailed 19-18 after 50 minutes.

But the last 30 minutes belonged to the home side and they scored 28 unanswered points.
