Jake White won’t experiment with youngsters against the World XV and will play certain combinations again against Scotland.
Among those combinations will be the midfield of Jean de Villiers and Jacque Fourie and the halfback combination of Ricky Januarie and Jaco van der Westhuyzen.
White will rest Schalk Burger, Victor Matfield and John Smit against the World XV and return them to the starting XV for Scotland. Outside of this, the team to play the World XV represents the core of what will play the World XV.
White tried a run-on XV in a practise match, but told Keo.co.za that the more experienced players, whom he introduced in the latter stages, were on another level.
“We want to do well against the World XV and it will act as a warm-up to the Scottish series. It is important we get partnerships going and the match is a chance to do this,” said White, who is also likely to give Wikus van Heerden the captaincy against the World XV. White has made no secret that he rates Van Heerden as the best skipper after test captain John Smit.
In an interesting development White will play two Bok veterans Gaffie du Toit and Andre Snyman on the wing, with Bryan Habana and Ashwin Willemse injured and Breyton Paulse only back from France on Tuesday.
Hanyani Shimange will finally get a chance to start for the Springboks and White’s selection of a potential all-black front row and all white wing combination is evidence that the transformation landscape has well and truly changed.
Probable team to play World XV: Monty, Snyman, Fourie, De Villiers, Du Toit, Van der Westhuyzen, Januarie, Van Niekerk, Venter, Van Heerden (captain), Van den Berg, Rossouw, Sephaka, Shimange and Andrews.
