Boks say no to Pienaar

Moves to involve Francois Pienaar in the Springbok management were crushed by senior players, who said no to the 1995 World Cup-winning captain.

Rapport newspaper’s Rudolph Lake revealed in Sunday’s paper that consideration was given to Pienaar replacing Arthob Petersen as the new Bok manager. The name was presented to the squad but Lake writes that senior players did not welcome the suggestion. It was scrapped.

Naas Botha was also a name presented, but it seems to have also failed to excite the players.

Morne du Plessis declined any involvement because of business commitments.

The post will now be advertised.

I have complete faith that the issue of the Springbok manager will turn into another pathetic political wrangle,I do certainly hope to be proved wrong, but this is a prime issue for some political manouvering.I await the run out of this issue with eager anticipation.

No Pienaar, no Botha and no du Plessis well that gets rid of the qualified elder statesmen. I wonder if the players weren’t excited by these names because they fear that their current efforts might be compared to those of bok sides of yesteryear or because they simply don’t like the candidates. I also wonder whether the players were in fact given an option and if this is just a complete fabrication, certainly not the first time for this site.
Make a decision based upon the usual criteria for SA rugby choose somebody along race lines or somebody with a disastrous track record and no abilities to speak of. I nominate Tony Mceever from the Spears he should do a great job! Failing that BVR is available and he might give them a fat bonus!

Naas or Morne would have been good. I don’t rate Pienaar. It seems it’s all about money with him. I agree with Dee dah on how this will end.

Pienaar and Brian van Rooyen made a huge mess of the World Cup Bid. He should stick with silly Lays advertisements.

Well if its in the rapport then it must be true. :)

Pienaar may or may not be the right man for the job,but surely this is not be decided by the players the man will after all be part of the management team, perhaps the captain and vice only.

Nice chap that Pienaar is he is not the man for the job. Pienaar is really a man from a different era. Where rugby everywhere bar NZ and SA was strictly an amateur game. The game has moved on. Its now a totally different sport.

Maybe they could get Ken Lay to do it instead of serving time in jail in Texas for the Enron scandal. Within about a year of being in Bok management dealing with all the **** he’ll be begging to serve his sentence in Texas.

Where did this report come from?? Who believes what is in Rapport in any case?? They write **** and try and cause **** ,unless it’s about the Bulls players!

Good on them for shafting Pienaar – I’ve had some contact with him and he is not a pleasent person (arrogant beyond belief).

My vote goes to Wynand Claasen – what’s he up these days?

redox is right, anyone that reads Rapport needs their head examined. JW must be behind this. always thought Pienaar was ok but obviously the players dont want him, fair enough, get the team spirit right and win the tests this year.

the kiwis won 11 out of 12, the boks must start beating them.

FP comes from an era where players were players – told what to do by the man in charge – the coach. These days in SA rugby the players are in charge and the coach too insecure to stand up to the “senior” players (all still “snotneuse”). FP will not stand for this. The “senior” players – and White himself I believe – prefer softies around them – and Pienaar is the last man they would like to hang around their comfy set-up.

    StMichel,

FP pioneer’d professional rugby in SA after the 95 WC. He got in trouble for doing what you now say his not suited to.

This is real bullshit. When the hell do you ask your employees who they would like their manager to be?

  • 26.Andre_WP: Reply to this comment

    I wonder why ?

“When the hell do you ask your employees who they would like their manager to be?”

    – this happens more than you think. At the company I work for, junior people not only has input into appointment of managers, they get to take part in the interviewing process. For a team (whether it’s sport ot business) it’s important for to have a good fit both ways.

Make Steve Hofmeyer the manager. He could sing to the Bulle in the squad when they are away on overseas tours so that they don’t miss their mommies too much.

  • 29.Pussycat: Reply to this comment

MysticBoer. You surely jest. Business is not a popularity contest and a huge amount of ‘juniors’ don’t have the wherewithal to take weighty matters like ‘effectiveness’ and ‘ability’ seriously.

  • 30.princess: Reply to this comment

Mystic Boer – the players were not asked according to themc – Where RAPPORT’s stupid journalist Rudolf Lake got his info from only he will know , as usual the Taal causing kak!!

comments: (1) should not be decided by the players other than smit, vice (2) never helps if u look like a maggit and have track record of being one….thats why the Morne’s turn these down and the Nass / Pielaars get turned down…..
