Visagie’s World Cup vision

World XV prop Cobus Visagie aims to return to South Africa next year and play for the Boks at the World Cup.

Visagie, who now represents English club side Saracens, told Beeld’s Hennie Brandt that he was eager to add to his 29 Test caps.

“I know Jake [White] is someone you can talk to and I don’t think I’m totally out of the mix,” he said. “I’m ready to play for the Springboks, but it’s not the most important thing for me to do right now.

“My contract with Saracens expires in May next year. I hope to return next year and qualify for the World Cup. I haven’t spoken to any of the Springbok people since I’ve been overseas. When I decided to go overseas, I virtually wrote off my chances to play for the Boks again. It went so well for me overseas that I think I can add value to a Springbok team.

However, Visagie admitted the ball was firmly in White’s court.

“It is not up to me to make the first move,” he said. “I’m sure the other guys who’re in the squad [Percy Montgomery, Jaco van der Westhuyzen and Andre Snyman) didn’t approach Jake. I’m doing my part and the Boks must take a decision. I think I’ve still got it in me.”
