Dwyer: Boks not special

The All Blacks and Wallabies will not be losing too much sleep after the performance dished up by the Springboks against the World XV at Ellis Park.

This is the view of World XV coach Bob Dwyer after his team conceded a dubious late penalty to lose 30-27 in a scrappy friendly international played in front of a sparse crowd.

“The Springboks were not special today,” he told a post-match press conference. “They were OK. I’m sure New Zealand will not be quaking in their boots and the Australians will surely feel they could be in with a better chance this year.

“The only thing exciting about that game waxs the scoreline that remained so close throughout.”

Dwyer was clearly not impressed by one or two of the Boks on display. “I don’t think they can take too much out of this game and they will be getting key players back. For example their two locks will be back and players like [Bryan] Habana will add speed.”

Despite that sentiment, the Boks fiddled and fumbled their way to a flattering three-point win against a team they should have beaten far more comfortably, especially at altitude.

Said captain Justin Marshall: “We tried to have a balance today. We appreciate the difficulties of playing on the Highveld. We kicked alot more than we did against England. Almost a 100% more.

“I thought we came together very well. We strung things together quite well and gave them a hard time.”

    Marshall

    And you still lost.

The boks can at least take the scoreboard home with them.

The boks will at least have a positive to work with.
if the XV played their best and still lost then SHAME!!

Yeah at least we know we can go up a whole loadof levels. I really hope this game has shown up a few players who really dont desearve to be there.

Dont really see how it would have made much of a difference if Habana had been there …our wings didnt get any ball.

I’m grateful I gave the game a miss, as I’d be as hammered as my son was after sitting through that ****. It was bad enough on TV but we saved R 600.00.

He said that Jorrie Muller scoed against the Pumas, that’s why I know he is hammered.

Maybe JW is so sly he had the Boks almost lose. Then he paid Dwyer to badmouth the Boks to motivate them for the season.
This performance will lull the ABs and the Wallabies into a false sense of security and suddenly ….yes! The Boks will strike from nowhere with lightning fast backs with amazing ball skills they kept hidden for the entire Super 14 to surprise the real opposition. The forwards will suddenly crush their opponents who will have been used to dominating them during the Super 14. Joubert and Barry will without warning sprout numerous agile neurons and will outthink the opposition who will lie groaning, open mouthed as Boks slip past them again and again scoring tries at will.
Then all the pundits will finally see the light and stop carping at the coach and the players.
It goes without saying of course that the RWC will be a mere formality for the Boks.

    Rex,
Yes the Boks have lulled us into a false sense of Bok ineptitude.
Tana is not even taking his handbag on tour.

The Boks need to pick up their game quickly. Dont be shoked if Scotland give the boks a moerse go. Scotland beat France, England and the world XV. If the springboks dont pull their fingers out of their arses Scotland and France will give us a hididng not to mention the All Blacks and Ausies.

Post 21 the Scot’s will give dem a moerse go but will still get beat. It’s when da boks go to da world cup in France where I’ll be kaking my self cause it will be neutral ground.

Although Saturday’s game was a bit worrying, I was impressed with the idea of Wynand Olivier on wing. Ruan Pienaar also showed that he is worthy of a bok jersey. The Boks lacked continuity whilst considering the fact that it is their first game together.

I feel remorseful for Balie Swart, as there are some serious prop power problems. Not Andrews, Shimange, Coetzee, or Sephaka showed that they earn their positions.

Let’s see what happens against the Scott’s and France before opinions can be justified.

There were only 5 or so players missing hardly a full bok B team.

but i have to say that was the kakkest game ever, but dwyer is wrong when he says the boks were OK. They were ****! The backs never got the ball because the forwards were kak. Only joe and pakslae did anything. The other guys could just as well have stayed on the bench. **** , you’d think that these fringe players would play their harts out to get into the team, but no, they do absolutely nothing worth mentioning on the field, and they let in 2 tries against the old age home while scoring none!

It seemed like teh Boks got Cats flu! They were doing all the stupid things the Cats do (dropping balls, having it ripped away, passing badly, etc)? Maybe Wikus is catching?
