Junior AB’s flog Fiji

The Junior All Blacks stormed to a 35-17 win against Fiji in Suva.

The New Zealanders scored four tries to two to set the pace in the IRB’s inaugural Pacific Five Nations tournament.

The Junior All Blacks, made up of players who could not make the All Blacks extended squad of 45, led 13-10 at halftime.

More than 25 000 watched the game, which also marked the return to Fiji of sensational winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca, the former Blues flyer. Caucanibuca, who had been exiled for a year by the Fiji national selectors, experienced a quiet match in general. But he did get a chance in the final minutes to showcase his talents and he scored a trademark brilliant try.

The Junior All Blacks play Samoa in New Plymouth next weekend.

Scorers:
Fiji
Tries: Aca Ratuva, Rupeni Caucaunibuca tries
Conversions: Seremaia Bai
Penalty: Bai

Junior All Blacks
Tries: Nick Williams, Josh Blackie, Cameron McIntyre and Johnny Leo’o
Conversions: Stephen Donald and Cameron McIntrye (2)
Penalties: Donald (2) and McIntyre

dont know about the conditions playing in fiji, but the depth in nz rugby looks ominous. this was practically there 3rd team beating playing against fiji (maybe 4th if you consider the maori team also played)

    Asha1,
    That means nothing.
England has the most registered rugby players and then SA.
We probably have more rugby players than Somoa with a population of 300 000.
We should be able to field 4 teams that are capable of beating all teams from 4 and down on the world rankings.

Samoa just beat Northland 18-17 in a warm-up match for their 5nations match next week. Had the Northland kicker landed his penalty attempt it would have won it for the Northerners.

then again boland is one of the provinces with the most clubs (i may be wrong) in sa, but that doesnt help much, does it. its not about thw quantity, but the quality available (and may i add, the exposure they got?)

    World XV V SA…

I could care much for the scoreline, I am more interested in the performance of the Boks, to see where weakness and strengths lie in preparation for the French and Tri-Nations.

    Stan,
Nz, Sa , England may have 10 times the number of Rugby players as Fiji, however Fijians are wonderfull athletes and naturals for the game.

Weight for weight, pound for pound few countries are there equal.
If you ever get the chance to see them live, take it with both hands, they are a sight to behold.
