Loffie off to winning start
3 Jun 2006
The Lions mauled the Pumas 38-0 at Ellis Park to give Eugene Eloff his first win as head coach.
After a nightmare Super 14 in the guise of the Cats, the Jo’burg side got a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the Currie Cup.
The home side scored five tries to nil and have given the Pumas, who qualified for the Currie Cup through the Vodacom Cup, an indication of where they stand going into the new season.
The Lions pack dominated their Pumas counterparts with Russell Winter and Pietie Ferreira excelling in the loose, while Earl Rose had a good game at flyhalf.
Lions: Tries: John Daniels, Marius Schoeman, Jorrie Muller, Louis Ludik, Roland Bernard. Conversions: Earl Rose (3), Jody Rose (2) Penalty: Earl Rose

Where has Roland Bernard and Russel Winter been during the S14?
Had huge expectations for Roland Bernard, but dropped of the radar?
Also Peitie Ferreira for that matter.
Still beating the Puma’s no great match.

Ya Roland Bernard is a good player hope he gets game time next S14. The problem with the Lions I believe has been that they lack quality in the front row, at lock and loose forward. They need to get themselves a decent tighthead, a decent lock and a decent number 8.

That’s 38-0 against a team who will be competing in the Currie Cup. And how many players have the Pumas lost to the Springboks? The Lions have lost Lorrie, Wikus, Ricky, Jaque, Julies and Petoors. So not too shabby at all. Lions to probably win the CC.
Have your say
