The Maoris scored in the last minute to upstage the Waratahs in Sydney.
The Maoris relied on a rolling maul to score the match-winning try and take the game 20-16 after leading 7-6 at halftime. The defeat meant the Tahs losing a fourth successive match to New Zealand opposition after crashing in the final three rounds of the Vodacom Super 14 to the Chiefs and Hurricanes (twice).
Heavy rain marred the flow of the game and the Maoris, renowned for their adventurous approach, were prepared to adapt and grind out a three tries to one victory.
