More misery for Carstens

Springbok loosehead prop Deon Carstens has been ruled out of Saturday’s Test with a groin injury.

Just days after being humiliated by World XV tighthead Cobus Visagie, the Natalian hurt himself at a Springbok training session on Tuesday.

With Os du Randt also struggling with a groin problem, Springbok coach Jake White has recalled Cheetahs prop Jannie du Plessis to the squad, having sent him back to his province after the Bloemfontein training camp.

White can also turn to Lions loosehead Lawrence Sephaka, who started the Test against Wales at the end of last year.

Of course, there is always the slim possibility that Ollie le Roux could get an SOS from the Bok camp. The veteran has 54 Test caps to his name, which could appeal to the cap-obsessed White.

Ah, yes, Muppits that was a bit of humour. Ollie has as much chance of getting a call from Jake as Luke Watson has.

    But why does the cap-obsessed White not want to have anything to do with the 29-test Visagie? Sure, Visagie is not very active in the loose, but is a tightheads first and primary purpose not scrumming? The Sharks should buy Visagie – I would love to see the combination of Lensing, John Smit and Cobus Visagie demolish other front-rows.

    Visgaie is the man for the job, but let him play against Ollie first. Andrew in comment 8 staed that Ollie has no groin to hurt. Wow, Visagie will expose that groin!

    Carstens was punished on saturday … he doesnt deserve to be in the Bok squad , but please dont bring back Ollie , why do we want to go backwards , surely there are better props around than him …

    A loosehead gets injured and a tighthead gets called up! Does not make sense.

    However, I do believe Jannie should be there any way at tighthead.

    Iceman it makes sense, cause Eddie is not a tighthead, so he will move to loosehead. I dont know why JW keeps picking people out of position & then he ponders after the game — ” what went wrong Gert, THE BOYS GOT PUSHED AROUND AGAIN?

    Yeah, I heard him sing on a South African TV program last year. Some people have their lives made! Like Skinstad also! Play a couple of years of rugby, get into the TV industry, become ‘the face’ of a major advertising company!

    Meanwhile I have to struggle through varsity, and then start at the bottom of the ladder! Oh well, lucky them I guess!

    Maybe Jake should negotiate with WP that Ollie plays for them Friday evening. After scrumming against Cobus we all can:
    1) Find out if he has a groin
    2) Rest assured that he wont play for the Boks.

    nah, if Carstens is injured, Visagie and not Ollie should be brought in, Visagie is already capped and Visagie reckons he’s in terrific shape. Andrews to cover 1 with Visagie at 3 will be a far stronger front row to take on the scots.

    Carstens is useless anyway. He was useless 2 years ago when he played with Wessel Roux and got smashed by England 53-3 and he is useless now.

    He can take Shimmy, Eddie, Kabila away too. Bring on Jannie and BJ.
