Wynand to get Bok start

Wynand Olivier is sure to start his first Test against Scotland in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

After coming on as a second half replacement for the injured Jean de Villiers in Durban, the young Bulls man impressed with some crunching tackles. He also looked good with ball in hand.

Although Wayne Julies (8 Test caps) has been recalled as cover for De Villiers, he is only likely to get a spot on the bench.

Backline coach Allister Coetzee said he was certain Olivier would get the nod. “Wynand has impressed all of us immensely. He has come in and understood our structures from the start. He will definitely get his chance on Saturday,” confirmed Coetzee.

As cover for both No’s 12 and 13, Olivier is regarded as essential to Bok chances this season. It is thus important he learns what it is like to play a Test from start to finish, should one of the incumbents break down between now and the World Cup.

Julies joined the squad after getting the SOS on Sunday. The squad was given the day off on Monday and will resume with dual training sessions on Tuesday.

Habana must start from the bench, as must Bakkies, let the guys ease back into the test arena. Then unleash them against the Tricolores.

Damn, hope WO starts. Will love to see him and JF play together. Also if white is serious about playing Habana in the centres he should let him play the 2nd half at 13 with fourie moving to wing. Cannot seriously think of trying these kind of experiments against the french.

Would like to see WO at 1st centre with Habana at 2nd centre, and Fourie at fullback. That would be a full secd combo for use i building up depth. Then we need the wingers like Ndungane bro’s, Nokwe and Chavangha to build up their confidence and awareness and out on the wing.
This should give us plenty of depth.

    Julius in!, Sepahaka out?
So the quota code is adhered to,,,

Wynand use this oppertunity wisely son

Why not bring in Bosman instead of Julies? Julies can only play 1 possie and we know what we have in him.

Bosman needs as much exposure as possible to the Bok systems and he can cover various positions…. and he’s a goal kicker….. and he needs experience…… and he got knobbed by being moved between the Bokke and the U21′s and now ends up playing CC…. wtf???

    Blokkies,
There are many more questions to ask from the rugby proper prespectives, trouble is, this is a quota code you are dealing with
It would make sense to bring Snyman to centre with Habana on the wing and drop Paulse for a more robust defender but that won’t happened,
Julius is better than Bobo though, so it actually could have been worse

Good luck Wynand, just do us all a favour, put ear plugs in, when Uncle Coetzee tries to explain his plan for backline play for the boks.

i hope that Wynand “Turnstiles” Olivier is picked against the Wallabies considering what a great job he did marking Giteau and Mortlock against the Brumbies this year.

SSR – One bad defensive day. He will gobble them up next time. Wanna bet?

We need some vision Onlooker…while I like the idea of Habs at 13 ,I’d rather see the less robust defender thinking while playing and perhaps we will score more points thanthe other team rather than just defend to win.

He copped flak for that game – and has not missed a tackle since. Watch and learn buddy…
