Cheetahs have derby edge

Twelve players with Super 14 experience have been included in the Vodacom Cheetahs starting XV for Saturday’s Currie Cup match with Griquas in Bloemfontein.

Six of the seven backs played consistently in this year’s Super 14 – a solid tournament for the newcomers – and they should dominate this match.

Along with an experienced backline coach Rassie Erasmus also named six Super 14 forwards to the starting line-up with another three on the bench.

Cheetahs back-up hooker Jaco du Toit played for Griquas in the Vodacom Cup and is sure to give his new team-mates some useful information. Free State and Griquas drew 38-all in Kimberley during the Vodacom Cup.

Griquas have two Super 14 players in their squad – hooker Tiaan Liebenburg and centre Ronnie Cooke – but are expected to struggle against the big boys this year. They finished third in the Currie Cup qualifying table and only took their place in the Premier Division when the Spears got shafted.

Cheetahs team to play Griquas:

Bevin Fortuin, Giscard Pieters, JW Jonker, Meyer Bosman, Gavin Passens, Willem de Waal, Michael Claasens, Ryno van der Merwe, Darron Nel, Hendro Scholtz, Barend Pieterse, Corniel van Zyl, Jannie du Plessis, Rich Verster, Oliie le Roux.
Subs: Jaco du Toit, Wian du Preez, Rory Duncan, Bian Vermaak, Falie Oelschig, Sinethemba Zweni, Phillip Burger.

Tell me guys , can a team run on without any player of colour this year ?

    Just a question

  • 9.KWV: Reply to this comment

    Andre_WP,

It should be possible, unless they cannot run to start with.

Your question should be “MAY” a team, yada, yada, yada…

no politics guys, remember, we are not allowed to comment on the ‘sensored’,'sensored’,'sensored’,'sensored’, of SA rugby and the wonderfull, great and brilliant vision of the country’s esteemed leaders!

yes, the quota’s can only leed to us talking about politics.

I will then have to mention, what a bunch of ‘sensored’,'sensored’,'sensored’,'sensored’ people run the country.

Note that ‘sensored’ is a cobination of Afrikaans and English showing the amazing progress being made in reconciliation and allowing us not not to call each other dutchmen and soutpiele, viva!
