Bulls squeak home
23 Jun 2006
The Falcons gave the Vodacom Blue Bulls a mighty scare, but it was not enough for an upset victory.
In the end the Bulls had to endure a frightful final ten minutes before emerging 18-16 in a scrappy opening Absa Currie Cup match played at Loftus Versfeld on Friday night.
The Bulls led 18-6 at the break after tries by centre JP Nel and fullback Stefan Basson. Flyhalf Morne Steyn managed one conversion and matched his opposite numbers’ two penalties for a healthy lead.
However, the Bulls failed to get any points in a dreadful second half as the Falcons clawed their way back into the game. An intercept try by winger Riaan Viljoen was converted by Louis Strydom. The flyhalf added a penalty with ten minutes on the clock.
It meant the result was in the balance right until the final whistle, but ultimately the Bulls held on for a win that was not pretty, but certainly welcome.
Scorers:
Blue Bulls:
Tries: JP Nel, Stefan Basson
Conversions: Morne Steyn 1
Penalties: Steyn 2
Falcons:
Tries: Riaan Viljoen
Conversion: Louis Strydom 1
Penalties: Louis Strydom 3

dit is omdat Naas die BAAS by die valke is!

Daar brand baie gevaarliggies by die Bulle. Hulle moes hierdie tuiswedstryd lag-lag gewen het.

Stan, kom nou man, waar kruip jy tog weg.

Kners while the clutchies sleep the Sharks still swim.

Sharks will have good chance to win CC this year as they were the better team in S14. Bulls came in through the backdoor with win at Newlands that looked very much like a staged affair – I was there. Go Sharks, please keep the Bulls out!!

Just remember – a very darling flyhalf of Loftus once said that the Currie Cup is not won in May!
OK it aint May but he meant that the cup is not won at the start of the season but at the end.

post 9 now I know why you are called rockspider.

The Bulls’ problem is not that they don’t travel well, the problem is that they dont play well at night. This is why they struggle overseas in the S14 , most games over there are played at night (earliest is 5pm I think).

A win is a win, well said post 9, there is still slot of rugga to play and next week the young bokkies are back

Stan is hier.
Nie n oortuigend wen nie, maar ook nie te sleg as jy sonder 27 van jou bestes speel nie. Dis n jong span met nuwe 7′s spelers en hulle sal beter word.Baie beseerdes behoort ook oor n paar weke terug te wees.

This thread was clean, perfect and pristine ………until a Sharks poepol showed up.
24 Jun 2006, 09:58 am
Ja nee , gaan nie ‘n maklikke jaar wees vir die bulle nie. Kan nie juis veel se nie want kon nie die game sien nie ,maar die bulls sal trug kom.

St Pete,
It is understandable.
4 tries in 28 minutes…
But be grateful, it could have been a *********…
24 Jun 2006, 10:21 am
The Bulls showed they have depth.
24 Jun 2006, 10:40 am
I’m not too worried about the Tjarkies supposed form, remember they played one of the weakest (hahahiehie) teams, whilst the bulls played the Vodacom Cup winners!
24 Jun 2006, 10:48 am
I am sure that you bulls supporters can’t be blamed for searching for the positives. Look at the log dutchies only 3rd position!!
You must be really proud about beating the vodacom champions, even if it was by 2 points!!
