The Vodacom Cheetahs scored an emphatic 55-14 win over Griquas in their opening Absa Currie Cup match on Saturday.
The Cheetahs led 29-0 at the break. The defending champions scored eight tries to two, but Griquas’ five-pointers game in the dying moment as the Cheetahs took the foot off the pedal.
It was a solid display from the Cheetahs pack as they layed the platform for a commanding opening display that will have signalled to the chasing pack they are serious about defending their title.
The win and bonus point took them to the top of the Currie Cup table after the opening round.
