Boks leapfrogged

Boks leapfrogged

France are now second on the world rankings following their four-try-to-one win against the Springboks.

It is the first time that France have risen as high as No 2. They overtake South Africa, who drop one place to third ahead of Australia, whose impressive win against Ireland consolidates their place at fourth.

Lower down the rankings table, Fiji’s close win over Samoa in the IRB Pacific 5 Nations takes them above Italy into 11th place, now just one behind the Samoans at 10.

Maybe Argentina AND Fiji should be included in an extended Six Nations?

WORLD RANKINGS (Top 12)

1. New Zealand 93.32
2. France 87.53
3. South Africa 87.18
4. Australia 85.59

7. Scotland 77.72
8. Argentina 77.49
9. Wales 76.34

what time will the squad be announced?

  • 5.Mclaren: Reply to this comment

I think France, NZL and the Wallabies must be the favorites to win the WC in 2007.

  • 6.RedCard: Reply to this comment

Hey Jake took us to nr2, so until we hit sixth, we are still better off. :-(

    Kemp,

The announcement of the squad has been delayed until later this week.

  • 10.kemp: Reply to this comment

    do you guys know why?

  • 11.RedCard: Reply to this comment

Yes They have to find a new plan as well as at least 15 rugby players before they can think about announcing a squad.

  • 12.RedCard: Reply to this comment

Kemp or perhaps they need to ask the new coach which players he would like to use?

  • 13.Stan: Reply to this comment

    This just the beginning.
Soon we will be below the Soap Dodgers.

  • 14.kemp: Reply to this comment

how much of a say does the coach have in picking the starting XV?

  • 15.Operator: Reply to this comment

The way Australia is suddenly playing they will go past us after the first 2 games in the 3-nations.

But we just need one win in the 3-nations, then we will be back in the No.2 slot.

South Africa and Australia just needs one win each and suddenly France drop to no.4 again.

  • 16.RedCard: Reply to this comment

Operator, do you think the AB’s will drop 2 games in the TN?

  • 17.Mclaren: Reply to this comment

    Its fine,

Let the selectors take the necessary time to select a more effective team, keeping in mind all the injuiries. Hope they will have a look at Schalk Brits, Luke Watson, Pierre Spies and a strong bugger to play at 3. And of course a flyhalf that can play rugby, perhaps Ruaan Pienaar??

  • 18.Stan: Reply to this comment

    kemp,
    The coach picks the team.

  • 19.Mclaren: Reply to this comment

    Redcard,

The Wallabies can beat NZL on current form, and with a bid of luck!!!

  • 20.kemp: Reply to this comment

jake, it is time to admit you were wrong in not selecting certain players

  • 21.Mclaren: Reply to this comment

    Stan,

JDV and and Jacques Fourie were selected after some pressure from the selectors.

  • 22.Stan: Reply to this comment

The only team that can beat the Sheepshaggers with luck are us.
The convicts will beat them with talent.

  • 23.Mclaren: Reply to this comment

    Kemp,

Luke Watson and Schalk Brits and BJ Botha should have been included in the team at the end of last year.

  • 24.Mclaren: Reply to this comment

    Stan,

The Aussies seems very professional in their approach to sport, including cricket and rugby.

    Jason,

    Times are changing.

We are now totally messed up.

Cant say this current situation is a supprise, all that we needed was injuries to a few of the squad and were in **** street.Maybe more effort should be made in building up a better quality of depth, where any change of personell wouldnt put such strain on the team. Now we want to throw a bunch of kids in and expect them to perform miracles.

  • 28.Stan: Reply to this comment

    Mclaren,
They are very profesional in whatever they do.
Bearing in mind that rugby is only their 4th most popular sport and they have the best record in WC history.
Compare this to our soccer team, who has about 15 million to choose from, the best staduims and facilties, enough money and they cannot even qualify for the WC?
    Corruption, nepotism and politics.
Our rugby is going the same way.

As mutch as I dont like them much you have to credit the Aussies, last year their team was in serious kak,6 months later they have gotten rid of a coach, hade a huge turn around and are starting to look like a very good package even this early in the int.season.

Didn’t Oz look “good” last year after their home warmup games? Then look what happened tot hem when they got to SA! Oz have always been strong at home – their, and the Boks, issue has been in winning away from home. I will hold judgement on the Ozzies until July 8th when they will have performed against NZ in Christchurch. There’s no doubt they are talented, but they’ve played a very poor England team twice and an Ireland team coming off the back of two gruelling tests in NZ. If Oz manage to win in NZ then they will deserve it. But NZ haven’t lost there since 2003 – 18 matches or so ago. It’s still the toughest place to go and win.

  • 32.seamus: Reply to this comment

Not for a SAn side, Stodders. The toughest place to win for a SA side is Twickers

  • 33.Stan: Reply to this comment

    seamus,
Only the last 5 years or so.Before that the Soap Dodgers were kakking themselves when we were coming.

  • 34.stodders: Reply to this comment

    LOL Seamus.

SA have lost their last 7 games in NZ since winning on 25/07/98.

SA have lost their last 4 games in England since winning on 05/12/98.

U guys shouldn’t confess negatively over the Boks. Watch them do well in this tri-nations. I have a hunch it will be between the Ozzies and the Boks. Again i say if a few things went better for the Boks last Sat they would have beaten a well oiled French team by playing badly

Aussies will overtake us soon too then I will be spewing.

Where there is smoke there is fire , I expect JAke to announce he is taking up the Pommie job soon. We have too much politics in our rugby , this is the reason that I’m no longer a rugby fanatic. This and violence in club rugby. A few years ago I would be at every CC , S14 game at Newlands , PLus if I can afford it the Trinations , nowadys , when the Stormers play I rather go fishing !! I think I watched about 20-30% of the Stormers games so far this year (ok maybe that was a good thing this year ). Previously I would not miss a WP vs Boland game , or even the warm games , I would watch the preview stuff on DSTV , the match , the interviews and even the highlights after that !!!

man people change their minds fast! we lose one game and suddenly we’re worse then england!HA! c’mon guys, we all know jake effectively picked a fifth strng side for the french game..only he thinks theyre the second best. we’re the only team who beat the all blacks last year, and were 3 mins from beating them in nz and becomming number one in the world. relax for in a couple weeks we’ll be back at number 2. as for the aussies…last year they started off their season even more convincingly…enough said. giteau and rogers are out with injury..and they still have a disfunctional pack. if we can get our heads out of our arses we should win. having said this the boks just SO different without schalk…its almost like he was half the team.

  • 39.GoTheTahs: Reply to this comment

Giteau and Rogers will both be available for selection next week. Giteau is playing for Queenbeyan to prove match fitness this weekend. Rodzilla should also be available :) Our only injury concerns are to Aussie Clyde(hamstring) and Alex Kanaar(ankle).

Here’s a quote from The Australian that I’ll leave you with: (http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,19585486-32102,00.html)

Aside from Brent Russell, who surely was kidnapped from Australian parents years ago and smuggled across the Indian Ocean by babysnatching rugby coaches, not a single player in the South African side displayed any flair whatsoever.

Indeed, the livewire winger might even have jeopardised his Test spot by scoring such an ostentatious try midway through the second half. Wasn’t he told his job was solely to work the ball to within range of the goalposts for Percy Montgomery?

That’s not to say the Boks won’t be a danger yet again in the Tri-Nations. It’s just that they’ll be the same old boring danger they’ve always been.

France will slip to 3rd or 4th rank since they won’t play any test Rugby before November.
