Champs build up momentum

Champs build up momentum

Saturday’s 55-14 thrashing of Griquas showed the Vodacom Cheetahs won’t give up their Absa Currie Cup crown without a fight.

“As the current Currie Cup champions, it’s important to start off with a win, ” Scholtz told keo.co.za. “It makes a statement to all the other contenders out there.”

The Cheetahs ran in eight tries and dominated Griquas completely. This weekend’s encounter sees them taking on the Vodacom Cup champions, the Valke, in Brakpan.

“We are definitely not looking at this game as an easy five points, and the fact that it is away makes it even more difficult,” Scholtz said.

“Their pack is very strong and they have some impressive backs. Look what they did to the Bulls last week. They are not to be taken lightly.”

Scholtz pointed out that although the Valke looked solid, the long season will test their depth and ultimately decide whether they are realistically capable of challenging for the title.

“Obviously we’re happy with the win against Griquas, but no game is perfect and there will always be things that you need to work on. ”

Free State may begin in much the same vein as last week, where they looked to gain the ascendancy in the tight and then spread it wide once they’ve established dominance.

Than the bulls will realy have to play like they did two years back. Last year they didn’t impress much and this year during the Vodacom Cup ther was nothing realy in it for them. They been the top team for a few years but something went wrong for them.

    andre

One has to fancy the Cheetahs for the cup this year- especially considering that Bakkies, Victor, Fourie du P, Bryan Habana, Jacque Fourie, Jean de V, etc will be at home gym-ing….

The States has a solid team – with a bit of experience. Also, a relatively easy start. Get some early log points, and get home semi and final.

Watch Meyer Bosman at inside center – and JW Jonker at outside is a speed freak.

Die koppie bly in Bloem. Vrystaaaaaaaat !!!
