Louw signs with Bulls
26 Jun 2006
The loss of three locks to the Springboks has resulted in the Vodacom Blue Bulls signing Hottie Louw.
The former Bok and Western Province player has signed for the duration of the Currie Cup and his services will be heavily relied upon with the likes of Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha and Danie Rossouw missing.
Louw joins Francois van Schouwenburg, Adriaan Fondse and Cliffie Milton to form a powerful second-row unit from which coach Heyneke Meyer can choose from.
Louw will be on loan to the Bulls from the Llanelli Scarlets for the remainder of the Currie Cup.
“I have returned to South Africa to compete for a place in the Springbok side and I believe the only way to do this is to play in the Currie Cup,” Louw said in a statement. “I would like to be in contention for a place in next year’s World Cup squad, and depending on my inclusion in the Springbok touring squad at the end of this year, will weigh up my options with regards to returning to the UK.”
Louw’s agent, James Adams, confirmed that Louw did not turn his back on Western
Province, despite news reports to the contrary. He said that they had in fact been in contact with WP, but that the province did not get back to them with any offers.
Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer said that Louw, who will be joining the Bulls within the next two weeks, will be a huge asset to the province. “We have lost three locks to the Springboks, and Louw’s experience will be invaluable to us. He will also be able to share this experience with the young, talented locks in the province, which will aid their development,” Meyer said.
“Hottie is still relatively young and he is now entering his best years as a lock. I believe he still has a role to play at international level.”

Be interesting to see his level of play now. He was a good solid second rower.

An in-form and fit Hottie Louw playing in SA is a national rugby asset – though it may take a while before Jake recognises it.

I cant believe WP neva tried to get him back. He is a solid player. Apparently he was doing extremely well overseas.

‘According to a former Western Province teammate of his, Louw wanted to return to the Cape, but Province just weren’t interested in him because “they said it would send out the wrong message to the younger players”.’

Copied this from another site
The Blue Bulls have completed another signing coup by recruiting Springbok lock Hottie Louw to their ranks for the rest of the Currie Cup season.
Louw recently returned to South Africa after playing the past three seasons in France. He specifically contacted the Blue Bulls to see if they would be able to utilise his services for the rest of the season.
The 30-year old former Bok was in action for Corne Krige’s invitation team recently against the World XV and asked specifically to work with coach Heyneke Meyer as part of his deal, snubbing the Western Province connection that made him a Springbok earlier in his career.
Louw joined a number of other players who have grown disillusioned with the Province set-up.

26 Jun 2006, 11:13 am
Bru
If you keep quiet nothing will change there. The fatcats will get fatter and the team shittier.
26 Jun 2006, 11:14 am

26 Jun 2006, 11:17 am
Hoe lank is Steenkamp al beseer en hie lank nog gaan hy beseer wees???? Wonder of hy nie sommer saam Dale Sandton vakansie hou nie…
26 Jun 2006, 11:26 am
How did the Sharks not manage to nab him. They’ve been looking for a big powerful lock for years. They made Geo Cronje an offer, but he turned it down, went overseas, and then a tractor fell on him. They’ve got Ackermann at the moment but I cant see the guy playing till he’s fourty.
Hottie is beyond stupid if he’s gonna stay at the bulls. During the super 14 the only perk he’ll have is front row seats for the match, from the bench
100 !!!
26 Jun 2006, 11:50 am
Dammit, just missed it
26 Jun 2006, 11:51 am
Elke speler wat by die bulle aansoek doen moet eers ‘n helse deposito neersit voor hy toegelaat word na die volgende fase in die die lang siftingsproses
26 Jun 2006, 11:52 am
Speaking of players returning from France where is Bretyon Paulse gonna play at? I’m assuming he will go back to WP? Ditto with Selborn Boome if he is still coming back.
