Hits keep coming for WP
27 Jun 2006
Schalk Brits has become the latest member of the Province contingent to watch the game from the sidelines.
Brits injured his knee in last Friday’s win over the Pumas, the same knee that has ailed him for the past few seasons.
“I tore my knee ligaments and dislocated my patella as far back as 2004, but the decision was made to forgo an operation and let the knee heal,” he told keo.co.za. “I suppose it’s due to the amount of rugby I’ve played over the last two years that I have broken down now.”
Brits plays an integral part in the Province team, and a serious injury to him could hamper WP’s chances this season. With Hanyani Shimange ruled out due to national duty, there is no recognised back-up at hooker after Huia Edmonds.
“I’m disappointed to be going through this so early in the season,” said Brits. “But we will only know the extent of the damage tomorrow morning. I can’t, complain, it doesn’t help.”

How about Ashton Constant? He doesnt have a team since the Spears no longer have a team…

what next?

Pity… but Whoeeya Edmonds had a decent game for the Krige Crowd against the World 15. Looked solid in the scrum, threw in well, was also great in the loose and put in a couple of good kicks as well.
Also he must have been getting pretty frustrated not even making the bench so will revel in getting onto the park for a change.

Hey Shimmie needs game time. He can be released to WP like the sharks guys were released last week.
Also he will no longer be in the national setup when they pick Chilliboy

Wish you well Brits – take the op now if it’s an option, you may just be needed next year.

cfb – agree – shimmie needs to actually play and now by default he should be WP no 1….

Heaven forbid that they pick Chilliboy and JP this early. They are both Boks, but definitely not yet.
27 Jun 2006, 16:44 pm
Well that solves the SB debate then.

loki, what makes schalk burger different to those two. He made his bok debut as a 19 year old. Stop talking ****.

More injuries! and I thought the boks had problems
27 Jun 2006, 17:53 pm
wpw – Schalk was actually 20 years old when he made his debut against Georgia

Hard luck Schalk, never a good thing. Enjoy your rest and come back stronger when De Villiers is coach.
27 Jun 2006, 19:59 pm
well now Jake has a legimate excuse for not selecting schalla
27 Jun 2006, 20:04 pm
I remember reading somewhere, probably here on keo, that one of JW’s reasons for not selecting Luke Watson, is because he and Schalla (the burger not the britz
) specialize on the same side of the scrum. What’s the excuse now?
28 Jun 2006, 04:07 am
He reckons Watson cannot compete in the line-outs for one.

This is unfortunate timing because if a new Bok coach came in (no matter who it is) Schalk and Luke would walk straight into the squad.

Such a pity .. not that it matters because we will be stuck watching the same dreary, lazy, un-inspirational, inept display at hooker from JS up to the wc .. and maybe even up to 2009.
I hope they do not push Chilliboy into the fray to soon, he is a future star and possible captain and we must not damage him now.
