Jorrie may need surgery
27 Jun 2006
Lions coach Eugene Eloff is missing just one player from the team that went down bravely to the Sharks at the weekend.
Jorrie Muller, the former Springbok utility back, popped his shoulder and may have to have an operation. It is the only casualty from the Lions 33-22 loss to the Sharks in Durban on Friday night.
Although it was a defeat, many in the Lions camp feel it is a step in the right direction. But a victory is urgently needed otherwise another slide could start as was witnessed in the Super 14.
“Jorrie is definitely out for a couple of weeks, but it could be longer if he has to undergo surgery, which is a possibility,” Lions captain Wikus van Heerden told keo.co.za.
The Lions face a wounded Blue Bulls outfit at Ellis Park on Saturday with both teams desperate for a good display. Although the Bulls won in the first round, the manner of their 18-16 victory at home over the Valke left much to be desired.
“They will be keen to put the record straight after coming in for some criticism after that game (against the Valke), but we are training hard and the game will be at Ellis Park, which is to our advantage.”
After facing one of the competition favourites in round one, the Lions take on their trans-Jukskei rivals on Saturday. That will be followed by a trip to Bloemfontein to meet the defending champions and then they host the impressive Valke on July 14.

Why was he playing in the first place?

Dis altyd hartseer as so ‘n goeie speler ‘n besering opdoen.
Nog ‘n hartseer dag in SA (en Leeus) Rugby.

At currie cup level Jorrie isn’t that bad, in fact, I don’t think he did much wrong on Friday against the Sharks…

Brain surgery?
27 Jun 2006, 08:18 am
are the lions supporters happy campers?
27 Jun 2006, 08:20 am
yoda, we would have been happier if our coach had a recognised kicker in the game against the Sharks, the guy missed 4, the score would have been a lot closer if he got all of them…
27 Jun 2006, 08:37 am
glad the sharks played the lions already, whilst jorrie was still playing… always nice tgo have 16 players on the field…
27 Jun 2006, 08:38 am
LOL at big g…

SPot on walter, I’m not saying that we would have won the game, ut the whole dimension of the game would’ve been different had we kept in touch on the scoreboard.
But hats off to the sharks.

AND….9 of our match 22 made their debut for the Lions…did you know that?
27 Jun 2006, 09:01 am
You guys (that’s Keo and his kabouters) should realy work on your headlines. for a moment I thought you were referring to Johan Muller
27 Jun 2006, 09:31 am
Jorrie, dis eintlik goeie nuus. Hy is die swakste speler ooit.
27 Jun 2006, 09:40 am
maybe it is a good thing jorrie is injured, why was he playing in the first place, hell…why does the union even contract him???
27 Jun 2006, 10:15 am
Walter I actually didn’t know. Not bad at all.
27 Jun 2006, 10:35 am
Lions didn’t do too bad.
Mujati at tighthead and Pretorius in the midfield had good games.Ludik has promise and Jody Rose seems a more natural no 10 than his older brother, though he’ll have to work hard on his tactical kicking.
There are problems at no 12 though, le Grange was avarage while Molefe and Swartbooi are good physical bashers but are not skillful creators.

I think you are wrong emiel. Swartbooi had limited opportunities in the last 12 months. I think this is an opportunity to revamp this guy. I still believe he can play for the Boks soon, if he is given the chances Doppies and Grant Esterhuizen got in the Super14
27 Jun 2006, 11:04 am
Jomar, not rating Swartbooi on Saturdays game. He’s a brilliant defender and a hard physical no 12.He’s just not a creative inside-back.The same can be said about Molefe. At present it a big problem not only for the Lions, but for SA rugby in general.
27 Jun 2006, 11:04 am
Mujati impressed me the most of the newcomers, the way that he stood his ground in the scrums, and then also take the ball up in general play, something a player like Sephaka almost never does.
27 Jun 2006, 11:13 am
Agree with you Walter. The Sharks have a good scrum and having Kees Lensing as your opponent can be very intimidating.Don’t know how far he’ll go but certainly is an improvement on Daniel Muller.

no lose for the lions…jorrie is useless
27 Jun 2006, 11:47 am
I still say Jorrie is pretty usefull at 15 or wing at Currie Cup level.
In any event, his replacement will hopefully be one of John Daniels or Marius Schoeman.
27 Jun 2006, 12:03 pm
While they are at it, maybe they can insert a brain and spine as well?
27 Jun 2006, 13:52 pm
come now StP, the lions will roar once more when Jake White comes to coach them.
27 Jun 2006, 13:52 pm
Talk about kicking a man when he is down. Anyway, he has asready had the operation, yesterday afternoon. Out for 4 months, which means we’ll only see him next year again.
27 Jun 2006, 14:59 pm
LOL! Did one of the Lions players get hold of him at the bottom of a ruck?
Pretorius did look bloody good in midfield.
emiel
Molefe is actually very creative, and wide awake for opportunities – not a bad playmaker at all. I saw him play in the U21 WC, and he was the complete player then.
27 Jun 2006, 15:18 pm
from what I’ve seen of Molefe is that he tends to want to run over/through players instead of looking for space…and not a lot of passing the ball from him…so can’t quite understand how you describe him as a playmaker…LOL!
27 Jun 2006, 16:08 pm
Once he recovers we will have to pop the other shoulder as well.
27 Jun 2006, 17:52 pm
Do you thik ANY ozzy team would select Jorrie in there backlines in the super14?
They even made Rathbone work on his skills for a year.
How a guy can play center for a CC, Super 14 and the SPRINGBOKs when he cant pass to his right, is shocking.
28 Jun 2006, 10:36 am
Walter, if the sharks didn’t have the worst player on earth ie adrian jacobs the score would have been worse, he is useless.
I did like the lions fullback though.
28 Jun 2006, 11:54 am
Yes, Louis Ludik, I didn’t know that he comes from the same school I went to (and where my son goes to)
Have your say
