Akona beats Odwa to Bok jersey

Bulls wing Akona Ndungane is one of four new caps in the Springboks’ Vodacom Tri-Nations touring squad.

Akona’s twin brother, Odwa, was expected to be included after his impressive season for the Sharks in the Super 14, but it’s the Bulls try-scoring machine who will get to wear the green and gold first.

The other new caps are SA U21 fullback JP Pietersen, No 8 Pierre Spies and hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle.

SA U21 centre Brad Barritt and Sharks scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar were not included in the side and should now be available for the Sharks’ Currie Cup match against Western Province on Saturday.

Victor Matfield, who was expected to be rested for the tour, has been included in the squad after the Bok management changed their minds at the last minute.

The 28 players will arrive in Johannesburg on Monday, before leaving for Australia on Thursday.
