Brits boost for WP
28 Jun 2006
Western Province received good news this morning when Schalk Brits declared fit to play the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday.
It was initially feared that the lively No 2 would be sitting out for awhile after an old knee injury flared up. A medical test revealed that he should be alright for what will be his first Currie Cup game for WP at Newlands.
“I will only know whether I am playing for definite tomorrow after I’ve undergone some fitness tests,’ Brits told keo.co.za, “but I’m feeling good.”
The news from the doctor is that their are no structural problems and that his knee shouldn’t get any worse. Brits will undergo a reassessment of the injury in a month’s time to confirm this.
Meanwhile, WP lock Andries Bekker has been ruled out for the next two weeks by a similar injury.
“There was a lot of water that was drained from his knee, but he will also undergo further testing at a later stage,” said Brits.
Flanker Justin Melck comes into the side for Bekker, while Gerrie Britz shifts to lock.
Brok Harris, the new front row signing, will be expected to make an impact against a strong Sharks front row in the second half when he comes off the bench.
Western Province:
15-Gio Aplon, 14-Chumani Booi, 13-Corne Uys, 12-Peter Grant, 11-Joe Pietersen, 10-Naas Olivier, 9-Bolla Conradie, 8-Robbie Diack, 7-Justin Melck, 6-Luke Watson (C), 5-Gerrie Britz, 4-Francois van der Merwe, 3-Attie Winter, 2-Schalk Brits, 1-JD Moller. wp really dont need new players, they need a new coach. what the hell is wrong with paul delport? why dont they replace niel the ****?
And rob linde? Brock Harris? Attie Winter? Chumani Booi is also not better than Ryland and Seconds… Where is Pieter Louw and Leon Karemaker? I give up. I hope the Sharks put 50 past wp so that they can fire this guy who’s pretending to be a coach…

Province are going to struggle against the Sharks. Sharks was a much beter team during the S14. If Province can build like the sharks did i am sure they will get there next year. No Barry in the team , that’s good news. We have to start playing with this younsters every week and we will get somewhere.

Looks to me Seconds is also out of rugby. I am sure he can still play a good game aslong as the ball gets to him. But the sharks will be a different outfit than two years back. Alot of youngsters in the province side. Little bit of experience and youth in the team.

I dont care about Pienaar and Barrit, Luke is on fire this year, got this feeling he’s going to moer them! I’m semi psychic FYI…
we’ll I guess we’ll see if my “powers” are real or imaginary soon.
He does not talk too much, he talks just the right amount, people ask him questions and he answers confidently… what’s wrong with that???

Who is this Robbie guy at nr8?
28 Jun 2006, 18:37 pm
Province to loose quite badly. Especially if Barritt, Murray, Pienaar etc play. Odwa to be spiteful and score a brace….

Brock Harris a very good prop from the Leopards. Was a toss-up between him and Werner Kruger for the U-21 squad probably.

What’s happening 2 Paul Delport??? no super 14 game time! Comes on as a sub in the corne game and scores one of the tries of the season and now he’s nowhere!! Give him a chance! this guy is a talent 4 the future!
