Bulls welcome back Boks
28 Jun 2006
The Vodacom Blue Bulls have made six changes to the team for their Absa Currie Cup clash against the Lions this weekend.
The changes strengthen the Bulls tremendously and after escaping with a narrow two-point win over the Falcons they will be hoping this team can do a better job.
With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the composition of the Springbok squad, Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer has dropped right wing Akona Ndungane. His place is taken by Trompie Nontshinga.
Four other changes and a positional switch were announced on Wednesday. Returning Springboks, Gary Botha and Pedrie Wannenburg will play hooker and No 8 respectively, while Marius Delport starts ahead of Sevens star Danwell Demas at left wing.
Baby Bok stars, Chiliboy Ralepelle and Pierre Spies have also not been included due to the doubt involved in whether they will be included in White’s Tri-Nations squad.
Ndungane has also been withdrawn due to his impending selection for the Springboks, but it could prove a double blow if he misses out on that too as the Bok selection committee have hardly made up their minds yet.
Scrumhalf Heini Adams retains his place after suffering a rib injury against the Valke and although in some discomfort is expected to be fine by Saturday.
Frikkie Welsh – mentioned by keo.co.za as a possible Bok selection – was nevertheless included as captain for the second game running, but switches centre positions with JP Nel.
The only other change sees Warren Brosnihan get his first start for the Bulls this year in the No 6 jersey instead of Derick Kuun.

Ahh…
And Hottie Louw will be joining the Bulls soon, so that takes care of the fact that we are missing three international quality locks. In Hottie Louw and v Schouwenburg we will still have the best lock combo in the country.
Add Gary Botha, and our host of props and the Bulls tight five is looking more than strong enough for Currie Cup opponents.
As for our backrow – Pedrie was the best of the Bok loose forwards on the park on Saturday. I am SO glad that Jake did not select him, and that he will be back to bolster the Bulls in the Currie Cup.
Marius Delport was the best U/21 Bok back in the final, and will boost the Bulls even more.
I wonder where Adrian Strauss is though, because quite frankly, he is FAR better than Chilliboy.
I have been swayed by the hype around Rallapele up to now, but having finally seen him play for a full game, I am not impressed. He hardly ever finds his jumpers, and in the loose Strauss is far more active than Chilliboy as well.
And as for his captaincy, I am afraid he was woefully unable to inspire his more fancied Bokkies to a victory over the French. In fact, I hardly ever saw him even speak to his troops.
So “resting” him is a convenient way to play better guys like Gary Botha and Kobus v/d Walt.
Lastly, it is a pity that Jake has spotted the talent of Pierre Spies. He is wasted on the sinking ship that is the Bok team. Rather keep him at the Bulls, where he will at least form part of a winning culture…

Plus we have the prettiest jerseys. Man, I love red and white. Blue is such a downer! I will also never been seen dead in a Wp jersey. All those horizontal lines will do nothing for my figure! Did nobody tell then vertical lines make you look slimmer?? The Sharks are Ok, I mean black and white will never be out of fashion but that big red sign on the front really spoils the whole look. No, a good red and white is definatly this years fashion must! Now go on, stop stalling! Get your new jersey and come over to our side. We don’t judge people on their choice of provinces. Some of my best mates are Ex- Bulls.
