No courtesy for Cheetahs

The Valke are hoping to make better use of their chances in the Absa Currie Cup match against the Cheetahs tomorrow night.

The Valke were guilty of not closing out the game against the Vodacom Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld last Friday, but those problems have hopefully been worked out this week.

“We could have had the Bulls game, but there is no sense to cry about it now,” Valke captain Piet Krause told keo.co.za. “We know we should have taken the opportunities and we have worked hard on fixing those errors this week.”

And the Cheetahs will not be given the same courtesy, says Krause. “The Cheetahs are a very good side so if we have one chance we know we must take it or else that could be it.”

The Cheetahs play a more backs orientated game than the Bulls who rely heavily on their pack. “We have had our pack together for several games now and I think if we have a chance that is where we need to dominate, but the Cheetahs are not poor in that department either.”

The Valke lost number one hooker Deon Strydom in the Bulls defeat and his place is taken by Christopher Venter. The only other change sees No 8 Mike Vermaak come in for Andries van Schalkwyk who moves to the bench.

Valke team v Cheetahs:
15. Jan Cloete, 14. Brendon April, 13. Sam Willard, 12. Jurie Coetzee, 11. Riaan Viljoen, 10. Louis Strydom, 9. Sarel Pretorius, 8. Mike Vermaak, 7. Jacques Nieuwenhuis, 6. Piet Krause (captain), 5. Nico Luus, 4. Ryan Strudwick, 3. Jan Pienaar, 2. Christopher Venter, 1. Zane Killian.
Replacements: 16. Hercules Jansen van Vuuren, 17. Pieter Grobler, 18. Andries van Schalkwyk, 19. Dewald Senekal, 20. Morne Adams, 21. Dean Okkers, 22. Pieter Spaumer.

Could be, but all I know he is playing his best rugby at the moment.

I guy with his experience at the helm will help the Valke in the CC. This game will be a good match up. Freestate musn’t think they can pitch up and get 5 points. This one will go down to the wire.

I won’t be surprised if the Valke do beat the Orange men.
