Blue Bulls backlash
30 Jun 2006
The Lions have been warned: the Blue Bulls have seen red ahead of their derby clash at Ellis Park tomorrow afternoon.
The high standards the Bulls expect of themselves were not evident against the Valke at Loftus Versfeld last Friday. Although the Bulls pulled off a narrow win, the manner in which they went about their business infuriated coach Heyneke Meyer no end.
Meyer has high expectations of himself and his team – they were not triple Currie Cup champions by default. And this week has seen a concerted effort to ensure no repeat performance against the Lions.
In fact such is the intensity in the Bulls camp now that Eugene Eloff’s Lions could be in for a really tough afternoon. “We always knew the first round would be tough considering we are missing our Springboks, but that is no excuse,†Meyer told keo.co.za.
“We have high standards here at the Bulls and we were definitely not happy with how we played against the Valke. And to their credit the guys have accepted that.â€
Fortunately for Meyer, he welcomes back Springboks Gary Botha (hooker) and Pedrie Wannenburg ( No 8 ) for the match.
“We struggled up front a little against the Valke because we had no genuine ball carriers. Both Gary and Pedrie are superb at that so I’m hoping their impact will make a difference.â€
Apart from trying to rectify the problems from the opening match, the past week has had added problems with the delayed announcement of the Springbok squad, which affected all the big teams.
But with the Bulls having at least twice as many players out on national duty the delay disrupted their preparations more than most.
“It didn’t help not knowing who was in or out. We were uncertain about Pedrie, Gary, Akona (Ndungane), Pierre (Spies) and Chiliboy (Ralepelle).â€
The latter three all got their first call-ups to the Springbok Vodacom Tri-Nations squad, while Meyer was thrilled to welcome back the experience of Botha and Wannenburg.
The Bulls have won seven of the last nine trans-Jukskei, but that will count for nothing when the teams run out at Ellis Park. Both teams have so much to play for in this derby encounter.

The Lions might cash in on a slipping Bulls side coming to the end of a winning sequence.
Everything works in cycles.

RedCard,
Unfortunately the Lions cycle is not symmetrical. For evey season they are above the line they spend 20 below the line it seems.

Just for interest sakes. Ever wonder what Chester Williams is doing these days. ###########
He’s come a long way since being the former Cats coach and potential Bok coach.
“Former Springbok World Cup-winning wing Chester Williams has made some interesting changes to the Uganda Cranes team, which will play Cote d’Ivoire in their RWC Round Two pool match in Kampala on Saturday.
Williams, the newly appointed Uganda Director of Rugby and head coach of the Cranes, made some interesting positional switches – following the team’s 36-3 defeat at the hands of Morocco in Casablanca earlier this month”

Lions fans are not posting because their Stanometers indicate that Stan is active. When the Stanometer’s needle moves out of the red they will become active. So stop posting and you may seem them become active.

Fortunately the CC is won by the team doing best on the field over the full duration of the competition – and not by the number and content of postings by their fans on Keo.co.za.

we seem to be able to take the bulls, with all their boks out of action and jorrie injured, surely the lions will spyker.

Just got off the phone with a mate of mine. Pretty funny… Go on, all you Bulls. Keep mouthing off. I love it when we are the underdogs, just makes the victory sweeter. The Lions might well lose but for all your sake’s and GERT’s you better not lose. GERT, ek gaan jou jare se k@k gee!!!! GO LIONS!!!!

Mmmmm, last time I checked they were not Lions players so who cares???
30 Jun 2006, 12:16 pm
Still with the heart Grrr. Always with the heart. But I must say that during the S14 I cracked and didn’t back my team.
At least we didn’t loose against the force like the CC champions.

30 Jun 2006, 12:24 pm
well, the Bulls side also looks a bit thin without their boks…so we must have a good chance tomorrow…
30 Jun 2006, 12:26 pm
the lions have nothing to lose, they will even be underdogs against the falcons…
i think they will surprise a few people this cc, not the blou bulle tomorrow though. its wp that will miss out on the semis.
30 Jun 2006, 12:47 pm
Who cares? Probably still suffering from S14 ‘blues’ like all the other franchises!
30 Jun 2006, 13:02 pm
Stan (25),
see, the Stanometer works. Ig sells them on the side.
30 Jun 2006, 13:16 pm
Grr,
I think you are not true with us. I think you care. The longer they stay away the better for your team as they may look competitive against bulls second and third stringers that are playing these days. The moment all bulls injured players back your team is doomed for another year without Currie Cup.
30 Jun 2006, 13:43 pm
Why can’t the Bulls just shut up and get on with it.
Oh wow…the Bully Boys are seeing red…Now that is laughable and a lot of BULLshit.
The Bulls will not make the CC final this year.
30 Jun 2006, 14:16 pm
Shakrs to win the curri cup, Lions will lose to Bulls, cheetahs will also be in the final.
30 Jun 2006, 14:34 pm
Dag se, to all fellow campers and supporters of the all surpassing, indominatable Lions, in anticipation of a Currie Cup thrashing by the mighty Lions I wish to send a finger gesture to the Blaaa Bulle, vat so. Lions, Cheethas final…happy days.
30 Jun 2006, 15:42 pm
Kudu,
Deal.
PS: the caravan chirp might come back to haunt you.

Anybody’s game. Bulls are disorganized and out of touch. Lions may be a different kettle of fish with Jano behind the pack and 613 noisy fans to cheer them.
Have your say
