Heyneke steps down

Heyneke steps down

Heyneke Meyer will step down as coach of the Blue Bulls following the Absa Currie Cup match against the Lions on Saturday.

Meyer’s position as hands on coach of the Blue Bulls will go to current assistant coach Pote Human as of next week. This was announced by the Blue Bulls on Friday.

They released a statement on Friday afternoon, saying: “The BBC (Blue Bulls Company), along with its shareholders, are considering several steps to afford Heyneke Meyer ample opportunity to place coaching in the Union on a better footing and in so doing ensure the success of the Blue Bulls in all structures and competitions, with specific focus on the Super 14.”

“All options will be considered in the coming weeks and will then be presented at the Union Meeting of 11 July and then to the Board of the Company for finalization.

“During this period, Pote Human, under the guidance of Heyneke Meyer, will take responsibility for the preparation of the Currie Cup side.”

Meyer was unavailable for comment.

Pote Human was a very good 8th and payed in the days of Naas and Uli.Orginal from PE and then all the years in FS. Has been involved incoaching for quite a while.
I am eternally grateful that it is not Baily or that quota Ashley Everts.

And they want this joker to be the Springbok coach?

  • 40.Hooker2: Reply to this comment

Pote played in the good old days. He played with that great hooker ‘Wessel Lightfoot’ who must still rate as the lightest player ever to play in the front row.

  • 41.Hooker2: Reply to this comment

Wessel scrummed down with Flippie van der Merwe, so he didn’t nead to be all that heavy.

  • 42.Zhak: Reply to this comment

I guess this was bound to happen when the Springboks got taken out of the Currie Cup. Last year Meyer stopped coaching the team to become director of rugby, and then he ended up coming back.

  • 66.motomouse: Reply to this comment

Bulls fans are in for a world of pain now. I know that we didnt have such an illustrious history but as Sharks fans we were relatively happy when Ian Mac was at the reins. Then he retired and we went through dummy after dummy and now it looks like we have found a decent coach after years of looking.

Bulls fans, dont expect your new coach to keep with the good work, and dont expect Meyer to come back and save you when the new guy cant cut it. He will not want to vacate his new job.

Pote had some degree of succes with Bloem Collegians but he is old school. Bet this will suit the Bulls but he is no revolutionary ala rassie or Muir so its down-hill for the fat bulls from now.

How the hell did they manage this? They should employ De Villiers. Then finally the Bulls might achieve is accordance with their financial/player strength.

  • 89.out wide: Reply to this comment

Yes Jurgens, stats do talk (post 61) – the Bulls have a pretty poor Super Series record. It’s the Super FOURTEEN at the moment by the way.

You can’t raise CC success to hide failure in the S14 – the CC cannot be compared with the skills required to win the S14.

I have no faith or confidence in De villiers.
He has one of the best U/21 teams in history and he could not retain our cup. He played Spies, Lobberts, Pietersen, Delport all out of their position and played did not attempt to get Bosman over there. Strauss is a better hooker than Ralepele and Vermaak a better scrummie than Malgas.

  • 92.St.Petersburgbok: Reply to this comment

The recruitment of DeVilliers would have been one of the great masterclasses by Bulls rugby……alas, we end up with a quota like Pote Human?

What credentials does he have to coach my Bulls side?

    1.He’s white
    2.He speaks Afrikaans
3.He knows the difference between a rugby and soccer ball.

Jake is the best man for the job, but i am getting seriously pissed off with him.
We all have seen that Jaco is not the man for the job, but White persist. It is too late now to experiment and he will not admit that he was wrong.
De Waal, Bosman and Steyn would not have done worse. Why did he not try Ruan at flyhalf for a few minutes?
The same goes for this fetcher issue.

Meyer was well known before he took over the Bulls: coach of SWD, assistant Stormers (forwards) coach in 1999 and assistant Bok (forwards) coach 1999.

De Villiers is a great coach and does not need to prove anything to anyone on this board.
