Heyneke steps down
30 Jun 2006
Heyneke Meyer will step down as coach of the Blue Bulls following the Absa Currie Cup match against the Lions on Saturday.
Meyer’s position as hands on coach of the Blue Bulls will go to current assistant coach Pote Human as of next week. This was announced by the Blue Bulls on Friday.
They released a statement on Friday afternoon, saying: “The BBC (Blue Bulls Company), along with its shareholders, are considering several steps to afford Heyneke Meyer ample opportunity to place coaching in the Union on a better footing and in so doing ensure the success of the Blue Bulls in all structures and competitions, with specific focus on the Super 14.”
“All options will be considered in the coming weeks and will then be presented at the Union Meeting of 11 July and then to the Board of the Company for finalization.
“During this period, Pote Human, under the guidance of Heyneke Meyer, will take responsibility for the preparation of the Currie Cup side.”
Meyer was unavailable for comment.

LIIIIEEEEEFFFFLLLLLLIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!
Hey, maybe we will get to see the most talented side in the country actually run the ball now.
30 Jun 2006, 14:51 pm
Heyneke has probably received word from Markgraff that he is in the runnig as the bokke coach.
I hope eveyrone noticed that Meyer wasn’t considered for the Elite rugby director position – LOL!!
30 Jun 2006, 14:51 pm
Stumped
30 Jun 2006, 14:51 pm
no dont know much about pote but he must be worth something to be able to coach a winning team
30 Jun 2006, 14:53 pm
Pote is an ex player turned coach.
30 Jun 2006, 14:55 pm
Winning what Jurgens? Last time I checked you won f**kall last year
30 Jun 2006, 14:56 pm
Why have they not picked Luke Watson to coach the Bulls?!!
30 Jun 2006, 14:57 pm
BluBarb, its because Luke Watson speaks English
30 Jun 2006, 14:57 pm
Or Schalk Britz! he cant scrum, he cant throw, so maybe he can coach?
30 Jun 2006, 14:58 pm
dean
if i wanted your opinion, i’d ask your wife for it.
30 Jun 2006, 14:58 pm
Maybe they’re resting Heyneke because he was involved in too many games voer the last two seasons…
30 Jun 2006, 14:58 pm
You are welcome to! Shes just finishing up with yours, and Ill send her over for you. Do you want the video tapes too?
30 Jun 2006, 14:59 pm
It does not say why he has stepped down though.
30 Jun 2006, 14:59 pm
lol vinnie.
30 Jun 2006, 15:00 pm
What happend to Mike Bayly?
30 Jun 2006, 15:00 pm
if anybody needs a rest its that Wynie guy that sits on the field with the players..
30 Jun 2006, 15:00 pm
Dean
It is for him to more fokus on the Super 14 makes sense………..i am all for this get the bulls better prepared for the super 14 and be the first SA team to win the super 14
30 Jun 2006, 15:02 pm
Well Steyn, I certainly hope so. Makes sense to structure the unions like this. On paper, the Bulls should of at least secured a home semi. Talented team, just to many mistakes at crucial moments.
30 Jun 2006, 15:06 pm
No Dean, talented team brainless gameplan!
30 Jun 2006, 15:06 pm
stevo,
Please explain to me how you hire a hotel room in order to play twister?
30 Jun 2006, 15:13 pm
****,**** Jonny!
30 Jun 2006, 15:14 pm
so i guess there will be less players of colour still in bulls laager … -
30 Jun 2006, 15:15 pm
Dean
I do agree with johnny they have the player but the game plan was up to sh#t…
30 Jun 2006, 15:18 pm
Why aren’t the Bulls supporters crying. Do they know something we don’t?
30 Jun 2006, 15:20 pm
Pote Human was a very good 8th and payed in the days of Naas and Uli.Orginal from PE and then all the years in FS. Has been involved incoaching for quite a while.
I am eternally grateful that it is not Baily or that quota Ashley Everts.
30 Jun 2006, 15:21 pm
And Pieter De Villiers just happens to be looking for a new opportunity at the moment. Pieter hope you apply and get the job buddy!
30 Jun 2006, 15:22 pm
Pote is a good man maybe some new ideas will be on the table now……bayle is HM bi%ch we all know that
30 Jun 2006, 15:22 pm
It MUST be Pieter. Will add some variation and flair to this dull bunch.
30 Jun 2006, 15:24 pm
And they want this joker to be the Springbok coach?
30 Jun 2006, 15:24 pm
Pote played in the good old days. He played with that great hooker ‘Wessel Lightfoot’ who must still rate as the lightest player ever to play in the front row.
30 Jun 2006, 15:25 pm
Wessel scrummed down with Flippie van der Merwe, so he didn’t nead to be all that heavy.
30 Jun 2006, 15:26 pm
I guess this was bound to happen when the Springboks got taken out of the Currie Cup. Last year Meyer stopped coaching the team to become director of rugby, and then he ended up coming back.
30 Jun 2006, 15:28 pm
Stan,Gblousmile,supa,
ek het die tshirts gepos. Julle skuld my elkeen ‘n grrot glas yskou Coke met baie ys en ‘n sny suurlemoen in.
30 Jun 2006, 15:29 pm
What about Steve Hofmeyer – him and Heyneke cook potkiekos together, that should qualify him?
30 Jun 2006, 15:29 pm
Meyer is a clever man. When the Bulls lose a couple this year his hands are clean. It’s called job security. Thats why jake wants to get out before the boks lose a couple more.
30 Jun 2006, 15:29 pm
grrot = groot
30 Jun 2006, 15:31 pm
i am too lazy now to go check archives, but i said heyneke was on his way out before the S14 started – the signs were there…
after two games – weird timing this – something is up i think.
30 Jun 2006, 15:32 pm
i think chuck norris should coach the bulls
30 Jun 2006, 15:35 pm
Dankie Staal.
Ek sal in Aug sien hoe dit lyk.
Dan sal ek, jou, groot green blood en wie ookal belangstel n lekker bymekaar kom hou.
30 Jun 2006, 15:38 pm
He obviousely feels this watered down Currie Cup is below him.
I mean he’s won it already, but in the Super 14 his sides have failed dismally on the road.
He obviousely feels he cant prove anything anymore in the CC.
30 Jun 2006, 15:54 pm
Must have been that awful hiding the Crusaders gave the Bulls in the semis. His confidence was never the same after that.
30 Jun 2006, 15:55 pm
It does not matter – Meyer was a medicore coach anyway. In fact the bulls hit a wall these past 2 years… Could not improve. I think the bulls days of winning are coming to an end… I heard that Habana & Matfield might be coming to WP
30 Jun 2006, 16:03 pm
Got a feeling of deja vu here. I give him a month and a couple of key loses and he`ll be back. And I suppose this is a big stuff you to Mike Bailey too as I thought he was next in line…
30 Jun 2006, 16:13 pm
PA
Might it be connected to the PC 14 about Jake’s future next week? I seemed to remember that there was an ‘insider’ that told Keo Hm and P Div would step in?
30 Jun 2006, 16:17 pm
There`s always a conspiracy theory…why cant he be doing exactly what they are saying, a director of coaching position.
30 Jun 2006, 16:27 pm
30 Jun 2006, 16:30 pm
En o ja ons het n 15% kans gehad om te wen nou + 15% by dan is dit nou 30 % kans!!
30 Jun 2006, 16:30 pm
Chuck Norris
u are confusing pote human with pote fourie
30 Jun 2006, 16:32 pm
Dis waar lemoen.
30 Jun 2006, 16:32 pm
jonny
wont say 2nd is **** all and only team in sa to make the s12 semis last year. stats do talk. check out who has won the cc the most since 1938
30 Jun 2006, 16:32 pm
The word on the street is that Pote is pretty useless as a coach. Last year Heyneke tried the same trick with Mike Baily bit it failed dismally. Heyneke must just remember the responsibility stays with him and that Bulls fans are very very unforgiving!
30 Jun 2006, 16:34 pm
stan
ons moet saam staan teen hierrie anti bulle mense
30 Jun 2006, 16:36 pm
30 Jun 2006, 16:40 pm
Andrew
Iam i wrong or are people confussing pote fourie with pote human?
30 Jun 2006, 16:43 pm
Bulls fans are in for a world of pain now. I know that we didnt have such an illustrious history but as Sharks fans we were relatively happy when Ian Mac was at the reins. Then he retired and we went through dummy after dummy and now it looks like we have found a decent coach after years of looking.
Bulls fans, dont expect your new coach to keep with the good work, and dont expect Meyer to come back and save you when the new guy cant cut it. He will not want to vacate his new job.
30 Jun 2006, 16:43 pm
sorry
ek is verkeerd dit is human
30 Jun 2006, 16:45 pm
the bulls are a well oiled machine!
30 Jun 2006, 17:38 pm
Good ridens
30 Jun 2006, 17:40 pm
yoda,
Of the early 50′s.
Was a great machine then, but………..
30 Jun 2006, 17:50 pm
Hope he doesn’t trip over the step and knock his teeth out……..
30 Jun 2006, 17:52 pm
Die Blou masjies sal voort stoom……
Go, die blou!!!!
PS!
30 Jun 2006, 17:52 pm
Whats up with Heineken Meyer now.
Pressure too much?
30 Jun 2006, 17:54 pm
We’re just building more depth……..in the coaches department!!!!
hehehehehe
30 Jun 2006, 17:56 pm
Pote played under Naas, they will follow the same game plan.
To those people critisizing the Bulls game plan, 3 CC in 4 years, 21 in total. You loose!!
30 Jun 2006, 17:59 pm
Bloubulsd (75)
Where did that get the springboks?
30 Jun 2006, 18:05 pm
Jis,
Now the Bulls will excel!
30 Jun 2006, 18:14 pm
Waas my ander tjommies????
30 Jun 2006, 18:17 pm
Jong, almal awol vandag.
30 Jun 2006, 18:19 pm
30 Jun 2006, 18:36 pm
why is meyer leaving can someone tell me
30 Jun 2006, 19:53 pm
Oh truck me George. Does any South African coaching careers have a lifespan of more than 3 years? And what is the story behind “Director” of coaching.
Are they to good to dirty their hands now?
They already have 12 assistants, and 25 sub-assistants. And valet parking.
Pote Human ended as captain of the Free State years ago. He sported a beard, and was one heck of a hard player, but coach, eish…
30 Jun 2006, 19:55 pm
Germany!
The biff was on after the game.
Argies out!
30 Jun 2006, 19:59 pm
Germany, as if I care
76, BokinOzzie, we are talking about the CC. When did all the WP players help the springboks? In 2001 and 2002 with Corne Krige and the rest of the WP brigade we did pretty **** as far as I can remember..
1 Jul 2006, 00:17 am
I kinda remember Human now.
1st time I thought abou this but his lastname is pretty funny if you do not know Afrikaans!
It like my buddy, Sakkie, never thought his name was funny, that is until I realised that for non-Afrikaans speakers it has to be totally weird!
Another word is ‘kant’, doesn’t work well in the USA:)
1 Jul 2006, 00:49 am
Pote had some degree of succes with Bloem Collegians but he is old school. Bet this will suit the Bulls but he is no revolutionary ala rassie or Muir so its down-hill for the fat bulls from now.
How the hell did they manage this? They should employ De Villiers. Then finally the Bulls might achieve is accordance with their financial/player strength.
1 Jul 2006, 08:06 am
Yes Jurgens, stats do talk (post 61) – the Bulls have a pretty poor Super Series record. It’s the Super FOURTEEN at the moment by the way.
You can’t raise CC success to hide failure in the S14 – the CC cannot be compared with the skills required to win the S14.
1 Jul 2006, 09:39 am
bloubuld,
Stan is always right….
shields,
De Villiers will never work in Pta.
1 Jul 2006, 10:07 am
I have no faith or confidence in De villiers.
He has one of the best U/21 teams in history and he could not retain our cup. He played Spies, Lobberts, Pietersen, Delport all out of their position and played did not attempt to get Bosman over there. Strauss is a better hooker than Ralepele and Vermaak a better scrummie than Malgas.
1 Jul 2006, 10:34 am
The recruitment of DeVilliers would have been one of the great masterclasses by Bulls rugby……alas, we end up with a quota like Pote Human?
What credentials does he have to coach my Bulls side?
1.He’s white
2.He speaks Afrikaans
3.He knows the difference between a rugby and soccer ball.
…..that’s about it actually.
Silly Bulls,very very silly.
1 Jul 2006, 10:40 am
St Pete
De Villiers white?
1 Jul 2006, 10:43 am
Pote was a good rugger player in his day but a coach he is not. Stan do you remember Richard Prentice?
1 Jul 2006, 10:52 am
Off course i do.
Stan is n rugby kenner.
He was a very good hooker?
1 Jul 2006, 10:53 am
and based what do you judge Pote’s coaching abilities?
1 Jul 2006, 10:56 am
pompies,
Hou op pomp en praat met my…
1 Jul 2006, 10:59 am
Well, basically……coached fokol, won or done fokol.
What do you base your opinion of Pieter DeVilliers?
U21 winners 2005
U21 runners-up 2006
Bok management under Mallet and so on and so forth, etc, etc, etc….
1 Jul 2006, 11:04 am
100?
1 Jul 2006, 11:04 am
100
1 Jul 2006, 11:04 am
Not entirely true St Pete.
Pote has been involved with coaching for quite a while now, he just received less attention and publicity.
Any coach would have achieved what De Villiers did with the players he had.
Let him take a small province and turn them into winners before i will really rate him.
1 Jul 2006, 11:05 am
the excitment is overwhelming, yeiy
1 Jul 2006, 11:06 am
( not so)mighty lion,
Do you have your Valiums on standby?
1 Jul 2006, 11:12 am
Was Pote at a small union as well beforehand?
Nope, don’t think so….club rugby, same as DeVilliers was, except that I understand DeVilliers won the league in the region he was involved with.
1 Jul 2006, 11:12 am
Jake is the best man for the job, but i am getting seriously pissed off with him.
We all have seen that Jaco is not the man for the job, but White persist. It is too late now to experiment and he will not admit that he was wrong.
De Waal, Bosman and Steyn would not have done worse. Why did he not try Ruan at flyhalf for a few minutes?
The same goes for this fetcher issue.
If he doesnt wake fast and drop his teacher mentality, it is going to cost us dearly.
1 Jul 2006, 11:13 am
heyneke was just as unknown when took over at the Bulls.
Is there cracks showing at the ‘mighty’ Blue Cows???
1 Jul 2006, 11:22 am
So why would you have a problem with DeVilliers getting the job then?
He is known, rated and already probably knows most of the Bulls players who he has already worked with at age group level.
See….Steyn,Habana,Olivier,Delport,Spies,etc…..
1 Jul 2006, 11:22 am
Grrr,
Dis vars, komende van n Leeu ondersteuner…
1 Jul 2006, 11:23 am
As mentioned earlier, i have no confidence im him after all the weird selections he made in the final.
1 Jul 2006, 11:24 am
Stan
Onthou net Stan, dit is net ‘n game. Moenie dit te serious vat nie…
1 Jul 2006, 11:30 am
Agreed some of the selections in that match were bizzare…….but he has made some good ones in the past.
He always played Olivier and Habana together in the centers.
1 Jul 2006, 11:31 am
Grrr….
Once we klap your disorganized and untalented rabble masquerading as a rugby side this afternoon, can we expect you to shut up and piss off?
1 Jul 2006, 11:31 am
Kom nou Loffie, boot die Bulle!!!
1 Jul 2006, 11:32 am
Pote Human.
lees post 35.
1 Jul 2006, 11:33 am
St.P… did I touch a nerver there?? Shame, maybe you should read my above post again. It’s a game…
1 Jul 2006, 11:34 am
St Pete,
We should have won that game.
I had to watch the game with 2 grinning frogs,
after we lost the previous day as well.
Pain, broer, pyn.
1 Jul 2006, 11:35 am
Tell you what St.P. I will support the Bulls this afternoon. Seems like it will be mass suicide in Tswane (and Russia) if the Blue one’s lose. And we wouldn’t want that…
1 Jul 2006, 11:35 am
Grrr,
Grrrr……
As I already stated on a previous thread.
The Lions will probably win this one. There’s nothing at stake, probably a kak crowd at Ellis with most of the Bok players away.
The Bulls stick to beating the Lions when it counts, CC final ’02,semi-final 04 and ’05, etc, etc….
After the Sharks, the Lions are the 2nd biggest chokers.
1 Jul 2006, 11:39 am
mooi loop Grr.
1 Jul 2006, 11:40 am
“Loffie die moffie”……
1 Jul 2006, 11:40 am
Ig,
Is jy wakker?
Lyk my Ig slaap.
Ek moet gou die geleentheid misbruik.
St Pete het jy gehoor die regering gaan nou n nuwe rasse klassifikasie doen?
Blankes word super blankes
Kleurlinge word blankes
Swartes word kleurlinge
Maar die bobbejane weier volstrek…..
1 Jul 2006, 11:44 am
St Pete, is jy in SA op die oomblik?
1 Jul 2006, 11:55 am
Yes, I’m currently in Pretoria…moving to Franschoek in a couple weeks.
1 Jul 2006, 11:56 am
Lucky you.
1 Jul 2006, 12:00 pm
No,no….lucky you.
Have you not noticed the Rand diving lately?
Sheet…….I still have all my hedgefunds and pension in dollars and pounds.
That is soooo not funny.
Basically, now I’m going to work twice as hard to get half as much,go figure?
1 Jul 2006, 12:02 pm
Yes, it took a dip, but will go to 8 very soon.
Trust our comptetant goverment to make sure of that.
1 Jul 2006, 12:07 pm

1 Jul 2006, 12:10 pm
St P
one seriaaas question, how come the loyal bulletjie spectators don’t take over Ellis on days like these?
You’ve got a large group of loyal spectators.
You’ve got the strongest squad out of all.
You don’t excalty need passposts to nip across the Jukskei for a bit of afternoon donnering.
1 Jul 2006, 12:16 pm
Quite frankly Sarky
I’d build one huge 90000 seater stadium midway between Jo’burg and Pretoors in a far safer and accessable enviroment with planned parking and public transport.
Share the stadium between the sides.Local derbies would be fantastic.Could become SA’s “National Stadium”….ala Twickenham at altitude.
Half the expenses….twice the income.
1 Jul 2006, 12:17 pm
PS:Why have they moved Dlulane to 7?
1 Jul 2006, 12:57 pm
Meyer was well known before he took over the Bulls: coach of SWD, assistant Stormers (forwards) coach in 1999 and assistant Bok (forwards) coach 1999.
De Villiers is a great coach and does not need to prove anything to anyone on this board.
1 Jul 2006, 13:44 pm
Mikey brass
Just like Jake who has won the u21 world cup and trinations as coach.
1 Jul 2006, 13:47 pm
That is your opinion mikeybrass.
everybody is entitled to one.
1 Jul 2006, 14:45 pm
why did my comment disapear i just only now got the sa rugby with mandela and johh smit on the cover a fantastic issue well done keo
so why is meyer leaving the bulls? i didnt see the answer
2 Jul 2006, 19:42 pm
look what happened last time someone else took over, I think it was…. well I can’t remember his name but the bulls fell apart without heyneke meyer. Like a little boy without his mamma.
HAHA!!!
PROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVIIIIIIIIIIIINCEE!!!!
2 Jul 2006, 20:10 pm
Haha, look at me!
2 Jul 2006, 20:10 pm
I’m home free!
