Heyneke steps down

Heyneke Meyer will step down as coach of the Blue Bulls following the Absa Currie Cup match against the Lions on Saturday.

Meyer’s position as hands on coach of the Blue Bulls will go to current assistant coach Pote Human as of next week. This was announced by the Blue Bulls on Friday.

They released a statement on Friday afternoon, saying: “The BBC (Blue Bulls Company), along with its shareholders, are considering several steps to afford Heyneke Meyer ample opportunity to place coaching in the Union on a better footing and in so doing ensure the success of the Blue Bulls in all structures and competitions, with specific focus on the Super 14.”

“All options will be considered in the coming weeks and will then be presented at the Union Meeting of 11 July and then to the Board of the Company for finalization.

“During this period, Pote Human, under the guidance of Heyneke Meyer, will take responsibility for the preparation of the Currie Cup side.”

Meyer was unavailable for comment.

  • 18.Dean: Reply to this comment

BluBarb, its because Luke Watson speaks English

  • 19.bluebarb: Reply to this comment

  • 28.Dean: Reply to this comment

Well Steyn, I certainly hope so. Makes sense to structure the unions like this. On paper, the Bulls should of at least secured a home semi. Talented team, just to many mistakes at crucial moments.

  • 29.jonny: Reply to this comment

No Dean, talented team brainless gameplan!

  • 35.Stan: Reply to this comment

Pote Human was a very good 8th and payed in the days of Naas and Uli.Orginal from PE and then all the years in FS. Has been involved incoaching for quite a while.
I am eternally grateful that it is not Baily or that quota Ashley Everts.

  • 36.saffa_guy: Reply to this comment

And Pieter De Villiers just happens to be looking for a new opportunity at the moment. Pieter hope you apply and get the job buddy!

  • 37.steyn: Reply to this comment

Pote is a good man maybe some new ideas will be on the table now……bayle is HM bi%ch we all know that

  • 38.saffa_guy: Reply to this comment

It MUST be Pieter. Will add some variation and flair to this dull bunch.

  • 39.nicksteroonie: Reply to this comment

And they want this joker to be the Springbok coach?

  • 40.Hooker2: Reply to this comment

Pote played in the good old days. He played with that great hooker ‘Wessel Lightfoot’ who must still rate as the lightest player ever to play in the front row.

  • 41.Hooker2: Reply to this comment

Wessel scrummed down with Flippie van der Merwe, so he didn’t nead to be all that heavy.

  • 42.Zhak: Reply to this comment

I guess this was bound to happen when the Springboks got taken out of the Currie Cup. Last year Meyer stopped coaching the team to become director of rugby, and then he ended up coming back.

    Stan,Gblousmile,supa,

ek het die tshirts gepos. Julle skuld my elkeen ‘n grrot glas yskou Coke met baie ys en ‘n sny suurlemoen in.

  • 44.nicksteroonie: Reply to this comment

What about Steve Hofmeyer – him and Heyneke cook potkiekos together, that should qualify him?

  • 45.Hooker2: Reply to this comment

Meyer is a clever man. When the Bulls lose a couple this year his hands are clean. It’s called job security. Thats why jake wants to get out before the boks lose a couple more.

  • 46.Staal: Reply to this comment

    grrot = groot

  • 47.PissAnt: Reply to this comment

i am too lazy now to go check archives, but i said heyneke was on his way out before the S14 started – the signs were there…

after two games – weird timing this – something is up i think.

  • 48.tomcat: Reply to this comment

i think chuck norris should coach the bulls

  • 49.Stan: Reply to this comment

    Dankie Staal.
Ek sal in Aug sien hoe dit lyk.
Dan sal ek, jou, groot green blood en wie ookal belangstel n lekker bymekaar kom hou.

He obviousely feels this watered down Currie Cup is below him.

I mean he’s won it already, but in the Super 14 his sides have failed dismally on the road.

He obviousely feels he cant prove anything anymore in the CC.
