Mils makes his move

Mils Muliaina is expected to play at outside centre for the All Blacks against the Wallabies in Christchurch on Saturday

Muliaina played just two matches at No 13 for the Chiefs in the Super 14, but should partner Aaron Mauger in midfield, which will allow Leon Macdonald to start at fullback.

Among the forwards, Hurricanes lock Jason Eaton is expected to start ahead of SA-born Greg Rawlinson and Ali Williams, and partner Chris Jack in the second row. Rodney So’oialo, Richie McCaw and Jerry Collins will make up a strong loose trio.

Wallaby coach John Connolly said there had been uncertainty about the All Blacks’ centre combination for some time, but the latest word was that Muliaina was expected in the midfield.

“Mils has played a fair bit in the centres, and the All Blacks selectors really like MacDonald,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald. “So we’re expecting to see both of them out there on Saturday night.”

Mills is the best option. He could really become a great player at 13.

Good choice by the selectors. I wonder who would have played fullback had Conrad Smith not been injured…

I’d still have Mr reliable Leon McD
Bring Nonu on once the game has opened up and Rogers/etc start missing tackles and he’ll blow the game open!!

Hope he does well at 13. But remember what happened to Christian Cullen we he was moved to 13, he play dropped dramatically.

Mils played # 13 in the 03 (i think) S12 for the Blues when they won the competition.
While some may construe that it is another Cully/MacD to 13 from 15, I think the context is quite different.
    Time will tell.

Mils is more suited to 13 than McDonald, I say that only because he is more of a proven player in that position than McDonald is. McDonald has been playing great rugby from the back and so why change it he and peter hewat were the two best 15′s in the S14, Mils created alot of space when he played 13 for the chiefs, he has a better number 12 inside of him in Mauger and Carter will also assist him as well. So for me it would be Mils over anyone else.

Good to see Mils in form and in the team. Was always going to be a bit of a shock if this was not how it was selected. Only Mitchell could have come up with someone different to play both positions.
