Boks grounded in Mother City

The Springboks’ Vodacom Tri-Nations preparations were disrupted when technical problems delayed the departure of their plane from Cape Town on Monday.

According to Beeld newspaper, Bok coach Jake White, a few of the management and WP Springboks were on the flight, but were forced to wait in the business lounge while the problems were attended to.

This resulted in the cancellation of the Springboks’ practice session at St Stithian’s in Randburg as well as a media briefing.

The team’s media spokesperson, Vusi Kama, later said they had already boarded when they were asked to disembark because of technical problems.

Stuart Cochrane, executive marketing manager of BA Comair, said Flight BA6428 had been delayed for more than two hours because of problems with a cooling fan in the Boeing 373-300.

The flight was scheduled to depart at 07:30, but only left at 09:41. There were 95 people on board.
