KwaZulu-Natal suffered their second straight loss to Boland at the U13 Craven Week.
The primary schoolers fought hard but could not complete a comeback against a strong Boland side, who had led 17-8 at the break. Disappointingly, it was more the case of poor finishing than good Boland defence that cost the East Coast team at the end, where they fell agonizingly short at 15-20.
The Leopards continued to impress with a well-deserved 14-5 win over a competitive South Western Districts team. The Leopards were not allowed to play the same sort of free-flowing rugby that saw them thrash Griquas 40-0 on Monday, and relied on a few well-struck penalties to give them the victory.
The Blue Bulls beat a talented Free State side when they scored a try in the final minute to win 10-5. Western Province controlled the ball well against the Falcons keeping the boys from Brakpan scoreless and in doing so winning for the first time at the tournament.
In other matches, the Griffons downed Zimbabwe and Namibia squandered a 5-0 lead against Border County Districts to lose 12-5. Mpumalanga continued their good form by beating Limpopo, and Eastern Province handed Griquas another heavy 22-0 defeat. Border also didn’t manage to get on the scoreboard against the Golden Lions, who ran in three tries in the 26-0 victory.
