Muir relies on rookie Sharks

Eight players will make their Absa Currie Cup debuts for the Sharks against the Pumas in Durban on Friday night.

Okkie Vermeulen, Craig Burden, Steve Meyer, Keegan Daniel, Wouter Moore, Jody Jenneker, Nikolai Blignaut and Conrad Stoltz have all been given an opportunity to play as part of Dick Muir’s dual-team system.

Kees Lensing is also back in the side after being ordered by the doctor to pull out of the Western Province clash with flu, while prop Danie Saayman, lock Steven Sykes, wing Dusty Noble and fullback Brett Hennessey all retain their places (Noble shifts to the right wing).

Skipper Badenhorst will wear the No 2 jersey, with Moore at lock. The former Free Stater has represented South Africa at U19 and U21 level and is just 22 years old.

The loosies include captain Jaco Gouws, the highly rated Daniel and Ryan Kankowski.

    Die Pumas gaan julle donner!

Who the hell do the Sharks think they are. Go back to the B Section where you belong. If another Currie Cup goes to Durban, it will be another dark day in our rugby history.

Who the hell funds these palookas anyway. Durban is a little fishing village by the sea (not a pretty village either).

Muir is underestimating the Pumas. This is not the WP.

The youngsters will not let **** down, these guys play for their coach, simply because he is a people’s person and a damn good coach, with faith in those he sends onto the park. Well done ****.

Confidence is the key factor. Something lacking in SA rugby.

Guys, **** knows what he is doing. **** is doing BRILLIANT work in Durban, he is building depth which is so important. Its GREAT to see **** using the squad system, and am really looking forward to the game.

Good for you **** Muir, your Vodacom Cup side finished second so maybe you can set a better standard than the Lions and WP do. They change as many players, but out of desperation.

I havent enjoyed the Sharks for a while but great to watch them play these days. They the only sa team with an actual game plan although wp played well on the weekend. **** is very sharp- unlike Aus- we have to have ex-backline players as coaches as we naturally just want to bash it up.I just hope we leave **** to his master plan

Lets hope it works and good luck to ****. It’s at least forward thinking and he already has two possible top 4 scalps under his belt in WP and the Lions. Not a train smash if it doesn’t work out.

Let’s just hope, it doesn’t end up in a situation of “spoilt for choice” and he can’t put together the best combinations at crucial stages of the comp.

    Cats Crusade

The current CC is a B Section competition. Only three teams in it are of A Section quality.

    Sharks
    Bulls
    Chetahs

Might as well just have a home and away tournament comprising those teams, with the winner taking the CC home.

Whats more that way Jake can rest all the players he wants as the comp will be over in four weeks.

    Great team,

Can we have a run down of these new players, like age, weight, previous honours etc.

I live in aus and try and stay in the loop, hard when they dont show any currie cup!

    Interesting selection in Durbs.

**** is doing a great job with bringing players in but also entrusting them with the honour of plauing for there province.

I would say that the other provinces are now seeing the value of letting youth come through and its working.

There are a lot of good young players coming through in South Africa that was evident in the SA U21 they just have to nurtute this talent correctly.

I just fear that too many of the provinces inhibit the natural talent and try and play a structured game plan ala Jake White.

We should allow players to express themselves a bit more in the Currue Cup and we have a bright future in SA as long as the administrators stay out of it

What a load of ****. The reason the All Blacks never win the WC is because they try and create too big a squad – and dont have one “A-List” team. You end up with Cullen, Leon McD playing center…

**** is going to do the same here. there is not going to be 1 “go-to” side for the semis and final, and the sharks will have their clocks cleaned by a more cohesive side like Cheetahs or Bulls.

    Squad – scmud…..
