Boks a hit in Wellington

Boks a hit in Wellington

The Wallabies could not sell out in Christchurch, but the Boks have gone one better for their Vodacom Tri Nations visit to Wellington next weekend.

It has been reported that just a 1000 tickets remain for the test and these are expected to be sold in the week. 12 000 public tickets went on sale three weeks ago and they sold quickly.

In the Tri Nations opener in Christchurch, 2300 tickets were unsold. Then again, the Vodacom Super 14 final between the Crusaders and Hurricanes was also not a sell-out, which tells you more about the support base in Christchurch than it does about them being swayed by the quality of the opposition.

Wellington is quite a lot warmer at night than Christchurch, and also a lot windier and often wetter. Wellington’s weather is similar to Cape Town’s.

Better stadium, more sporting (as in less one eyed), better nearby nightlife, better access and by far the best transport facilities in NZ are a help as well.

But yes, the Bokke have also been identified as a bigger threat than Aus, especially at home.

    WOW indeed.

Wellington is the only place in NZ that in my opinion could see a Bokke win. :-)

Grrr.. Lions have a better chance of winning the WC than the handbag-piss-on-the-grass-throat-slitting-boys. They’ve not seen the WC for so long I’m not even sure they know how to spell William Webb Ellis.

Jerry may have looked like he was indulging, but going all out for the Wankers Cup was not on his agenda.

The Lions have that Gong pegged!

would have thought it tells you more about the weather than the support base, KEO!

    Grrrr

So it is true, some of the saffa provinces indulge in this sort of diversion when they miss out on the finals of the Currie Cup.

Are they playing at the same stadium, if not, what is the difference in capacities between the on last week and the one next week.

  • 19.bokfan1: Reply to this comment

It must be the 1 million or whatever number it is of Safas who live down under

  • 20.Don: Reply to this comment

theyre sold out because they want to see ABs thump the boks.

  • 21.NZMaori: Reply to this comment

Remember the last time the boks played in CHCH it didnt sell out either. A load of bullshit those Cantabrians. Most arrogant of all rugby supporters. The Wellingtonians however would sell out any All Black test because they all have a great time at the cake tin. CHCH should be banished from the test venues.

  • 22.ricane: Reply to this comment

Yes BokinOz, it’s a portable stadium.

They just let the air out of it in chch, put it on a truck and call volunteers to blow it up again in Wellington.

The volunteers all get free tickets, so there’s only 1000 left to sell

  • 23.ricane: Reply to this comment

    BokinOz, ‘scuse the sarcasm
    I couldn’t resist
Wellington are putting in some temporary seating for the game which will bring the capacity just over 38,000 so it will take a few more than chch, but not many.

    ricane

Maybe not capacity, but in attendance it will be huge.

Hell, going on the indifference of the Cantabs, they may has well scheduled maintainence work in one of the stands :-)

So who’s goign to the game, i’d like to put some names to faces. I for one am looking forward to a great game, and a great run down that big *** concrete walkway outside in by bok jersey being chased by wellingtons finest.

  • 28.Viper6: Reply to this comment

What are the capacities of both stadiums?

  • 29.wpforever: Reply to this comment

I fear a 27-0 loss or similar just like the one we suffered with Gaffie and Dave Von Hoesselen playing

NZ Maori, I have apologised several times on this site on hehalf of the crappy northern half of The South Island poeple who fail to go to games. Why am I being abused. I take flights and huge car tripsto watch my team(s) play. Why am I and the other people who go to games being included in your abuse?

  • 31.chch: Reply to this comment

NZ Maori, Did you go to the game?

www- don’t mention Auckland and subway system in the same sentence! they have been fighting the pros and cons of building one for about 3 decades now.

Poneke, I’ll be there, if I see a bloke brave enough to wear a bok jersey I’ll ask if it’s you before I give you the bash!
Did you know your moniker was the Maori abbreviation of Wellingtons original colonial name; Port Nicholson?

Post 30 you have a way with words bud. I love Wellington, Cuba road and all.

  • 35.Poneke: Reply to this comment

Thanks Ricane, a little courtecy is always nice. I did actually know the meaning of Poneke however more to the point it is the name of the rugby club i played for last year.
Seriously though if you’d like to console a poor saffa with a beer that would be nice.
