Jake under no illusions
14 Jul 2006
The Wallabies may have been smashed by the All Blacks last weekend, but a monster task awaits the Springboks in Brisbane tomorrow.
Bok coach Jake White believes the team for the opening Vodacom Tri-Nations encounter at Suncorp Stadium is as ready as it could be.
“Our preparations have been impressive – we are happy on that score. What we need now is to deliver the goods on the day,” White said in his column on SARugby.co.za. “We are under no illusion that we are facing a tough battle against the Wallabies. Our record away has not been very good, but we will always do our best on the day.”
The Springboks find themselves in a similar situation to the Wallabies from last year when a slew of injuries saw them suffer eight defeats in nine matches. And at the end of it all coach Eddie Jones was sacked.
White will be hoping to come through the extended Tri-Nations in rather better shape as his ultimate dream is to lead the Boks to the World Cup in France in just over a year.
“I don’t want to dwell much on the injuries we have been experiencing over the last couple of games. Of course, it is sad to lose players as experienced as those who are now on the injury list.
“On the plus side, the return of Breyton Paulse, Bryan Habana, Jacque Fourie and Danie Coetzee is great news. Their continued absence would have further dented our plans for this tournament.”
After the Brisbane match, the Boks travel to New Zealand to take on the All Blacks in Wellington, before returning for another game against Australia in Sydney on August 5.
The match tomorrow kicks-off at 12pm (SA time).

” …he return of Danie Coetzee is great news.” How would we know .. we have not seen him play in a long time, and what is the chance that he would actually get a chance to play …

Boks will come out firing with all guns and that will only last for 30min…..sorry to say this but boks to lose by 10 points!! The biggest probleme is Jaco at fly-half!!

Paws, too true. Coetzee played eight from 22 matches in the Premiership for London Irish. When he was selected, the Bok management said it was based on his outstanding form, but he had not played for 2 months!

Jurgens I prefer to be positive about tomorrow, because we know what happens to history & record etc.The Boks have never beaten them at Suncorp so tomorrow might be a special day…

Also fear the worst – but maybe a good thing, because if the build up to the WC over the next year is going to be as depressing as the last six weeks, I’ll have to start supporting Kenya…

Two teams , one field. possibilities are
one team victorius
or
a draw
Can we win?
50 /50 chance as we will hopefully be on the field.
I feel that jake stirs too much.
Connolly says their scrum is weak, watch them, push us of the ball.
Can we win? Yes, but we need to sort out the player mind sets.
What on earth is Joe doing stirring up George? He had a big enough problem before, now glamour boy will a real hard time.

He was one of Rudy’s favourite dinosaurs.
