Cheetahs coach and former Springbok flank Rassie Erasmus has added his voice to the mounting calls to bring Luke Watson into the Bok team.
The need for a fetcher flank was never more glaringly obvious than on Saturday as the Boks could manage just 30% possession in going down 49-0 to Australia.
Erasmus feels Western Province captain and No 6 Luke Watson, who led his team to a 20-13 victory against the Free Staters, and Cheetahs flanker Hendro Scholtz are unfortunate not to be playing for the Springboks.
“I feel my No 6 (Scholtz) should be in the Springbok team. He still has a lot to offer Springbok rugby,” Erasmus told Die Burger’s rugby writer Herbert Pretorius. “Luke can chase the ball, he distributes it well and he can kick. And it seems to me, more and more, as if he is also a very good captain.
“I don’t want to criticise the Springboks, because I’m not in their camp and don’t know exactly how they think about the game.
“But if you want to know what I think, I’d say they need a fetcher.”
