Key moments:

77min – Carter chips and regathers his kick before putting McCaw away for the All Blacks second try. Carter converts (9/9)

73min – The Boks are penalised again and Carter kicks the penalty (8/8).

72min – Carter puts in the cross kick for Hamilton whose inside pass is knocked on by Paulse.

70min – Monty lets the ball bounce from the kick off and Williams knocks on just before the tryline as he tries to apply pressure. The TMO looks at several replays and gives the Boks a 5m scrum.

69min – Now it’s the All Blacks who are penalised at the scrum. Hayman didn’t bind properly. Monty kicks the penalty (3/6).

68min – The Boks are holding onto the ball but go nowhere after seven phases.

66min – Boks lose the line-out and Tuitupou breaks away. Carter doesn’t see the defender behind him and knocks on in the tackle.

65min – Tuitupou high tackles Monty and the Boks set up the line-out on the All Blacks 22.

64min – All Blacks penalised for taking out Smith at the line-out. Monty’s kick hits the post (2/5).

61min – The Boks win the scrum and Fourie kicks to the corner for Paulse, who claims the ball and scores the Boks second try. Monty converts (2/4).

60min – Monty boots the ball downfield and Howlett knocks on. Bad mistake from the winger.

55min – Cronje breaks away from a Bok line-out, but the All Blacks are awarded a penalty soon after. They get another 10m as the Boks don’t retreat quicky enough. Weepu is on the ground in some pain … seems to be a knee injury he picked up when tackled by Habana. He seems to be OK but is replaced by Cowan.

54min – Os comes back on to the field.

53min – The All Blacks turn the ball over from a Bok scrum, but knock on three phases later. Somerville comes on for Tialata.

51min – Williams rounds Smit and offloads to Howlett who kicks out on the full.

50min – Smit is penalised for coming over the top at a ruck. Oliver actually drove his skipper over. Carter kicks the penalty (7/7).

48min – Smit’s boot connects with Os at a ruck and the prop leaves the field. Andrews takes his place.

45min – Boks take a quick penalty tap and knock it on.

44min – The All Blacks counterattack from inside their half and Hamilton scores a fantastic try … but the referee calls play back for a forward pass to MacDonald earlier in the move. Boks are lucky to escape that.

42min – This time Oliver finds Jack and they set up the maul. Smit is penalised for being off his feet and Carter kicks his fifth penalty (6/6).

42min – The Boks poach their third All Black line-out. Oliver is really struggling.

41min – Tyibilika is penalised at the ruck and Carter finds touch inside the Bok 22.


40min – Disaster for the Boks as Weepu scores on the half-time hooter. Carter dances his way past two defenders, before Muliania breaks away down the left hand touchline. Hamiton’s inside pass goes into no-man’s land, but Weepu picks up the loose ball and plants the ball on the line. Boks will rue not finding touch earlier. Carter converts (5/5).

38min – All Blacks penalised for coming into the ruck from the side, although replays show Matfield was holding on. Monty misses another penalty attempt at goal (1/3). Boks should be ahead by now.

37min – Boks put more pressure on the All Blacks and MacDonald hacks the ball into touch. Bok line-out on the All Blacks 22m line.

36min – Smit’s throw is poor and the All Blacks poach the line-out. Fortunately for the Boks the ball is kicked directly into touch. Olivier is down injured … but gets back up.

35min – The Boks win the line-out, but the All Blacks drive them back and force the turnover.

34min – The Boks drive it up, before Du Preez breaks away and finds James, who is tackled just a metre out from the All Black tryline. The forwards bash away but can’t get over. The referee goes back for the penalty, which the Boks kick into touch.

30min – The All Blacks work their way into the Bok 22 and the Boks are penalised again for offsides. Penalty count is now 7-2. Carter makes no mistake (4/4).

29min – Monty slices his clearance kick and the All Blacks get another line-out on the Bok 22m line, this time on the left hand touchline.

28min – The All Blacks try to drive it up, but the ball doesn’t come out quickly enough and the Boks get the scrum.

27min – Hamilton knocks the ball on in the air, but the referee doesn’t see it. Monty is tackled into touch. All Blacks have the line-out on the Bok 22.

25min – The All Blacks knock on and the ball is played by another player in an offside position. Williams complains that he was tackled in the air without the ball. Monty goes for goal … but his kick goes past the left hand upright. Bad miss (1/2).

23min – Van der Linde is penalised at the scrum for not binding properly. Carter kicks his third penalty to put the All Blacks into the lead (3/3).

22min – MacDonald chips ahead and Habana is penalised. All Blacks take the quick tap and attack again. Two greats tackles, by Du Randt and Fourie, see the ball turned over.

21min – Du Preez can’t control Weepu’s kick and Cronje knocks on. First bad mistake from the Boks.

19min – Thorne bashes it up … as does Muliaina. Fourie is penalised at the ruck … referee says his left knee touched the grass. Tough call, but Carter adds the three points.
BOKS 7-6

18min – Boks accidently offsides, All Blacks get a scrum on the halfway line near the left hand touchline.

17min – James kicks again and MacDonald runs it back. All Blacks tackled into touch.

16min – McCaw tackles Monty into touch and tries to get the ball for a quick throw. Monty holds on the two wrestle for a few seconds. Nothing serious.

15min – Weepu comes back onto the field.

14min – Boks attack again, but are guilty of lateral running. Paulse runs backwards and is tackled before James kicks to the left hand touchline. No advantage to the Boks and they come back for the scrum (the first of the match).

13min – Weepu leaves the field injured, holding his arm. Cowen comes on.

12min – Poor throw from Oliver and the Boks poach a line-out. They work their way up field before being penalised again.

9min – Matfield wins the line-out and the Boks take it through four phases, before being penalised for holding on, 5m out from the tryline.

8min – All Blacks are pinned at the ruck. Monty sets up the line-out on the All Blacks 22m line.

7min – Carter kicks again into the Boks’ 22. Habana takes the mark and then finds touch on the halfway line.

4min – Boks are penalised for offsides and Carter will go for goal from about 30m out. Carter sends it through the posts. (1/1).
BOKS 7-3

3min – Carter kicks an up and under that goes to far. Paulse can’t take the ball catch cleanly, but Smit picks up and passes to Habana. Boks clear for touch.

1min – James kicks off … Boks are playing from left to right. Carter tries to clear for touch from inside his 22 and his kick is charged down by Du Preez who scores after just 17 seconds! What a start for the Boks! Monty kicks the conversion (1/1).
