Griquas lay down the gauntlet

Griquas captain Gareth Krause says his team will go to the Bullring and take the Vodacom Blue Bulls on at their own game.

“Our forwards have been great this season and we’ll look to dominate them up front,” Krause told keo.co.za. “We really back our pack and we’ll be wanting to lay the foundation for our backs to attack.”

With two successive victories [over the Sharks and Lions], Griquas will be looking to add another big scalp to their collection by resigning the Bulls to their third home loss of the season.

But Krause is under no illusions about the task that lays ahead for the side from Kimberley. “Despite what people are saying, I don’t think the Bulls or Loftus has lost any of that invincible aura,” Krause said. “Loftus is always a very difficult place to go, and you’ve got to be at your best to win there.”

Both Vodacom Western Province and the Sharks have beaten the Bulls at home this season, but Krause believes that this could work to the detriment of his side, rather than to their advantage. “They’ve got a point to prove. You know what they say about a wounded animal being more dangerous. The ball is in their court and we know they’ll come at us hard, but we are prepared.”

Victory over the Bulls will lift Griquas to fifth place on the Absa Currie Cup log and heap even more pressure on Bulls coach Pote Human. Krause believes his team can do it. “The guys are really pumped for this game, we’re ready to bring the points back to Kimberley.”
