dont think this was a particularly good issue, especially the cover. i’m normally quite eager to buy the magazine, but the question on monty is a no-brainer and having a whole article on it is a bit much to bear. i bought the magazine (only because i couldnt find anything better)hoping to change my mind on monty. tried to read the article, didnt finish it!
your article on rawlinson was better. would love more articles like this to find out how other players think, prepare for games etc. would love an article on henry and what he’s achieved so far, what he still hope to achieve and how he’s planning to get there.

Thanks

For me what is mostly impressive is the relevance of the articles ITO what is happening right now in our rugby. At this time when Pierre has had his baptism of fire, when we are sadly still looking at Monty to deliver all the goods for us, when the loss of Danie has really hurt our second row depth and a time when we are missing Schalk more than ever (and shouldnt be because Luke could fill the gap)
Finally, I get the message Ig, and will be subscribing.
Thanks again for the great mag oaks

PS: To answer your question: “Is Monty the best Bok fullback ever?”. Come now boys, have you already forgotten about a certain Sharks player. His name was Andre? Remember a certain World Cup??? In ’95? He had to play with a broken hand???? Now he was a legend!!! Monty can’t even catch a highball! I couldn’t either and I don’t have a Bok contract… Life is so unfair…

Who won the previous competition?
31 Jul 2006, 13:39 pm
I feel the pure timing of the articles in this months edition were pure class and even a little amuzing, although not intended I am sure. For this alone this months magazinemust go down as a classic!
In particular the articles about Monty, Pierre and Dannie. On the whole it was a godd issue with lots of insight from players, caoches etc. I enjoyes seeing articles like the Rawlinson and Vickerman. Lets have more of these.

Are you guys really handing out Bok Jackets?
What about caps, cause Jake White sure aint!!
31 Jul 2006, 15:42 pm
I liked the cover, nice colours……?
31 Jul 2006, 16:03 pm
Percy ,no els at the moment who can stand in his shoes. We do need someone who can come in as backup , but over the last two years he was our best but not all time best.
Still to little articles about ex players and what they think about today’s game of rugby.
Naas and Mallett are talking sens , don’t no what Keo is doing if he can’t convince Jake to let Luke play rugby. Talking about Luke , would love to see him on the frontpage oneday soon.
Get some articles on all the provinces and tell us about there coaching stuff etc.
Women rugby is not getting anough exposure in the mag.
Enjoy reading guys. I have given mine away already

I THOUGHT THE LATEST ISSUE OF SA RUGBY WAS RATHER BORING,NEED TO INJECT SOME NEW IDEAS INTO THE FORMAT AND ARTICLES……..REMEMBER,VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE….
31 Jul 2006, 23:24 pm
Ok,where to start…
The graphics that accompanied the articles on Percy Montgomery and Danie Rossouw where really well done and the thought that went in the it can really be seen, especially with the latter. So thumbs up to the design team!
The article about the Schalk Burger injury, with all the relative info(including the doctors)gave perspective on the whole issue and how it all unravelled. It was something that the media should have printed a long time ago. So good going to Highbury for jumping on that one and to the journo who covered the story!
One thing that didn’t really work for me is the ads which appear in the mag.I feel that it tends to play into the stereo typical image of rugby players, and supporters, are brainless oarks. With exception of two ads (one by ROLEX and one by ALEXANDER FORBES).Men are coming out of the closet, so to speak, about the fact that they also enjoy a bit of pampering and that they too like taking care of themselves.
Maybe Highbury should consider taking on more of the cosmopolitan ads just to give a bit of a classy feel to the mag. I know that there are issues like advertorial to editorial ratio ect, to consider, so I reiterate that this is just my opinion.
Generally, keep up the good work and someone please have a talk to White about Watson!

To start the front page spoils this edition of the magazine. How can one put Monty in the same category as Andre Joubert, who must be the greatest full back we have had the privelege of watching. On recent performance Monty has improved as a player however his weaknesses have been highlighted in the last two games. He is a confidence player and without it he is awefull. Why not put the new talent we have in this country on the front page and ask that question? Secondly i always thoroughly enjoy the Naas column as his insight into the game is always to the point and brutally honest. Maybe he should be coach for the World Cup 2007. Other great reads were that of Greg Rawlinson and Pierre Spies who look like some of the up and coming stars of world rugby. Just a pity we have lost another player with such potential to the Kiwis. Dan Vickerman must stay in Australia and not tell everyone he’s still South African. All traitors to the flag must never return or mention their name in the same sentence as our beloved land. As for our good old coach Jake White he needs to start biting the bullet and start looking closely at the like of Luke Watson and others like Bradley Barrit, Chilli boy, Ruan Pienaar, etc. We need to get rid of the dead wood and play those that are inform. I would also personally like to read more about what is happening abroad in England, France to see what preparations they have for the World Cup 2007. As a whole this magazine is still the best read currently on the market.

Great Mag, regular reader, More Schools section please. An artical on Brent Russells treatment By Jake( In squad or match 22 but hardly gets game time) would be great.
Please try find more information on Wycliff Palu. Thanks

Is it a serious mag? Percy the greatest fullback???? Any other jokes? Former greats such as HO de Villiers and Andre Joubert were great fullbacks with very few weaknesses – Percy battles to catch cold let alone a high ball!
The way our Boks are playing, will the winner be paid to wear the jacket?
Seriously, other than the poor call on fullbacks, it is a good in-depth rugby mag that is, as usual, very informative and worth the cover price.

Hey Keo, how about doing a article on South African Born players playing for other Countries and see how the match up against the current Springboks.
Man wouldn’t it be great if we could get the Ex Pats to play vs the Springboks…now that would be a interesting match!!
Then 1 more idea…how about a article on players leaving South Africa to play abroad and where they have gone and what have they achieved…we know about all the familiar names leaving…but what about the unknown guys leaving.

The isuue was great a usual, but where’s the schools rugby page, I loved reading about the stars of the future, now it’s gone, please bring it back, and try and find out why White wanted that blady pom job, and analyse that terrible game against the aussies. And thanx for a great mag.
Have your say
