Botha’s Bok blow

Naas Botha may not be appointed Springbok manager after all.

It’s no secret that Jake White wants his former SA U21 manager to replace the sacked Arthob Petersen, but the Bok coach may not get his wish.

According to Rapport newspaper, Botha does not have the support of all of SA Rugby’s bosses, who want Zola Yeye to get the job.

Yeye is the SABC’s manager in the Eastern Cape and played for the Saru Springboks during the apartheid era.

Ironically, Yeye was one of White’s harshest critics during the recent Vodacom Tri-Nations tour. “What I see is a confused team that is being coached by a confused coach,” he said at the time.

A high-ranking Saru administrator told Rapport that Botha wouldn’t get the job after the controversy surrounding White’s contact extention and said the next Bok manager must be black.
