Despite the rumours, neither the Vodacom Blue Bulls nor the Free State are interested in employing injured Springbok Marius Joubert.
Joubert’s contract with Vodacom Western Province expires in October, and the talk about moving up to Bloemfontein or Pretoria has been refuted by both Vodacom Cheetahs coach Rassie Erasmus and Bulls talent scout Ian Schwartz.
“Marius Joubert’s name has never been mentioned at the Bulls, and we have never been in contact with him over a possible move,” Schwartz told Suparugby.com. Schwartz also confirmed that the Pretoria-based side are on the hunt for an inside centre, not an outside centre.
Erasmus is also said to have denied interest in Joubert. The Cheetahs have already signed two centres, Hendrik Meyer and Warren de Bruin, in the last to weeks.
When Joubert is fit again, he may well follow the trend of other jaded Bok players and head for the UK. Rob Wagner told this website that the decision-makers at WP are still in discussion as to whether his contract should be renewed. But with the wealth of young backline players available to the Cape Town side next season, it is likely that Joubert will be let go.
