Valke coach John Williams has named an unchanged match 22 for this weekend’s Absa Currie Cup match against the Vodacom Cheetahs.
This is the first time this year Williams has been able to stick to the same squad. The Brakpan-based outfit has struggled with injuries throughout the Currie Cup campaign, but finally they seem to have hit a lucky patch.
“It’s a huge relief to be able to keep the continuity,†Williams told keo.co.za. “I still feel there is a big result in this team and we have had good preparation this week.â€
The Valke have threatened all campaign to take a big scalp, but against a team of the quality of the Cheetahs it is doubtful it is this weekend. Stranger things have happened.
The Valke gave the Blue Bulls a real tough test in Brakpan last weekend, but eventually succumbed 27-13. And in the first round, Rassie Erasmus’s team hammered the Valke 66-9 at the Bosman Stadium.
The Valke take on the Cheetahs at Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein at 1pm on Saturday. The early start is to accommodate the 3pm kick-off for the Vodacom Tri-Nations Test at Loftus Versfeld.
Valke team to play the Cheetahs: 15 Riaan Viljoen, 14 Brendon April, 13 Riaan Hefer, 12 Hanno Coetzee, 11 Mpho Matsaung, 10 Louis Strydom, 9 Sarel Pretorius; 8 Michael Vermaak, 7 Jacques Nieuwenhuis, 6 Piet Krause (captain), 5 Nico Luus, 4 Ryan Strudwick, 3 Philip Lemmer, 2 Piet Grobler, 1 Zane Killian.
Replacements: 16 Frik Venter, 17 Gavin Whittingham, 18 Attie Pienaar, 19 Sean Plaatjies, 20 Morne Adams, 21 Bosman Grobler, 22 Dean Okkers.
