All Blacks fly in reinforcements

Prop Greg Somerville is out of rugby for six months and flanker Chris Masoe will definitely miss next weekend’s test against the Springboks.

Somerville left the field after just 15 minutes and reports are that he tore his achille tendon, while Masoe was also an injury replacement in the second half. He hurt his ankle and won’t be considered for a test that would give the All Blacks back-to-back test wins in South Africa and a second series win in South Africa.

The All Blacks hammered the Boks 45-26 in Pretoria, but paid heavily in terms of injury with Leon MacDonald and Rueben Thorne also out of the Rustenburg test.

All Blacks coach Graham Henry said he would fly over replacements for a prop and a loose-forward. And on Sunday this was confirmed as John Afoa and Marty Holah.

Henry has resisted drafting in one of Conrad Smith or Ma’a Nonu to add stability to the midfield after the two starred in Wellington’s win against Auckland on Saturday. Aaron Mauger’s fitness will also be assessed on Sunday.

Carl Hayman looks unlikely to be flown to South Africa.
