Jake White has only added AJ Venter to his squad for the second test against the All Blacks.
No other players in South Africa are considered good enough to stop the rot of five successive test defeats, two of which have come at home against France and New Zealand respectively. In those two home defeats the Boks have leaked nine tries, but White believes there is nothing wrong with the defence of his team.
Venter has been included as loose-forward and lock cover, but it is unclear where the Bok coach will utilise his talents.
White gave his team and management Monday off. He has obviously realised that trying to put them through a training session would be akin to flogging a dead horse. After the pounding in Pretoria, this squad is mentally hammered. They need more than one day’s break.
White will confirm the match 22 on Wednesday.
