SARU president Regan Hoskins, among others, says Jake White is the right man to coach the Boks.
Hoskins and SA Rugby Pty Lt managing director Johan Prinsloo denied that anyone has been approached to succeed White.
According to Beeld newspaper, the Cheetahs coach was contacted earlier this month and asked whether he would be available to replace Jake White. Erasmus said he would, but only if the country was informed, before his appointment, of the service conditions.
However, Prinsloo told keo.co.za this did not happen. “No official approach has been made to Erasmus and if someone did, I’d like to know who he is,” he said.
After five successive defeats, White’s time as Bok coach appears to be running out. Two more home defeats – to New Zealand in Rustenburg and Australia at Ellis Park – would surely see him sacked.
White has a contract that ends after the 2007 World Cup, and Hoskins told Cape Times rugby writer Stephen Nell that the coach and the leadership of the team had his backing.
Hoskins said White’s position had not come under discussion.
