Rogers relief for Boks

Rogers relief for Boks

Mat Rogers is out of the Wallabies one-off Vodacom Tri nations test against the Springboks in a fortnight.

Rogers hurt his knee and will undergo a minor operation that forces him out of the test, one the Wallabies are confident of winning.

Rogers told the Sydney Morning Herald there was a belief in the Australian camp that they could finally break their highveld hoodoo and that it was a regret he would not be able to play a part in the match.

Western Force utility back Scott Staniforth replaces Rogers. Staniforth scored a hattrick for the Force at Ellis Park in the drawn Super 14 match against the Cats.

Who cares, we’re gonna lose to them no matter who they play, same as the AB’s

Os was in the backline so often on Sat I don’t know why White doesn’t play him at fullback.

It doesn’t matter who we play against we are doomed because of a lack of change in the Bok camp. ( I don’t know why I keep typing the b in Boks with a capital I should stop.)

The Highveld Hoodoo is with the boks. Ausies will loose that test with or without Rogers, No relief there?

Larkam is Fading fast, Gregran is not special anymore.

AB and Wallabies are far apart when it comes to away wins.

It should read, “Boks are relieved Rogers is not playing”.

    nailthem. I agree.

Why Eddie and now Knuckles persist in picking Gregan and Larkham is beyond most aussie supporters. The Wallabies should be going to the WC with players in those positions at the begining of there careers not the end.. and the time to bring them on is now!

    Boks’ll take it..narrowly.

Well Rogers is not there and Giteau IMO has done nothing since the Brisbane test against the Boks.

There is nothing wrong with Larkham, he is one of the best in the world.

Gregan on the other hand…. let me just say I am glad that they persist with him :)

Gregan, well, its a gard one for the Oz’s, who else do they have to play at 9?!? Cordingley has a great pass and all but Gregan out is also taking out leadership and a calming influence. Larkham is still the man at 10 for me, well unless Barnes has a blinder on the EOYT, thats if he is selected. OZ backs problem comes from an unstable foundation, that being the tight 5 and rocky elsom!

Larkham was one of the best, cocked up so much crucial attack ball against the blacks I wanted to cry becuase he is my hero.

Today Wallabies without larkham will probably be less dangerous, but not as fearsome. He could be on top form and dish us another splendind larkham pefromance, but highly unlikely today loose trios are much faster to close the gaps then again with our loose trios u wonder?

Then the away factor much too big for the wallabies even at their best form, they just **** it up here.

    AusieinCt
Western Force had an interesting fly-half that gave dan carter a run for his money in that S14 that the FORCE were robbed daylight of a clear win.

Why do u not try that guy? The problem with the ausies is that they let super14 team dictate the style of play for National team, the wallabies lack that special pattern unique to them. It all went lost with Nick farr Jones, jason little and that great lock who kicked like a 10.

We really need to revive ausie rugby, tied of the all blacks.

Os will be better than Pissie at fullback!!!

  • 18.AndyMcNabFAN: Reply to this comment

They were probably not even gonna put him on. I hope they put on Scot Staniforth. He is my favourite Aussie ever. It’s about bloody time they pick him. If he comes on, we loose. otherwise… who am i kidding. we have lost that game already.

Ignoring our understandably despondent Jappie friends, this is disappointing. There is some sort of curse on replacing Larkham and Gregan – we really need to be playing others in 9 and 10, but every time some worthy challenger emerges they get injured or something eg Rogers now, Barnes earlier this year, Cordingley – all injured, Henjack implodes, Giteau only playing 12, etc etc. Result – not only no depth, but also and this is more damaging, Gregan and Larkham retreat into their comfort zone i.e. they don’t care if we lose again, they just say we’ve won the 3N/RWC/Bledisloe/S14 already and can do it again, just not this time. They know there are no alternatives and it really detracts from their play.

Pre-dawn, should read “Farcical Boks still Rogered without Matt!”

I really think that this season and 2007 might turn out to be a bridge too far for Gregan and Larkham.
It’s just a fact of human physiology that the body cannot, at 32/33 y.o., perform the way it did at the time these guys were in their twenties.
Look at how Graham Henry decided in 2004 to not persist with Andrew Merhtens (then only 31 y.o.) and Carlos Spencer (then only 29 y.o.). GH refreshed his squad, and he got rid of players who would not be a part of the mix-up in the medium to long term.
I doubt whether Gregan and Larkham will rediscover the consistent good form they displayed when Rod Macqueen was coach. Back then they were match winners. Nowadays…well they are still capable of the odd good game, but surely age is catching up with them.

The flyhalf was James Hilgendorf. He started out as a reserve fullback.

  • 23.AndyMcNabFAN: Reply to this comment

The Hilgendorf – Staniforth combination was an awesome one. Too bad Mat Gitau is gonna screw all that up next season when he goes to the force.

What is the deal with Giteau. He came back for that 49-0 win against the Boks and then faded in all the last 3 tests against the AB and Boks. Hardly heard his name.

  • 25.captain fantail: Reply to this comment

Rogers or no Rogers I think the Boks are going to win over the Walabies after two home defeats by the AB’s but a close margin.

Agree Viewer 21 … but there are no natural replacements, or they all get injured!
