Now it’s Fourie at fullback

Jaque Fourie trained at fullback for the Springboks as Jake White told reporters to expect several changes.

White would not elaborate on the changes, confirming only that CJ van der Linde would not be considered. Sharks tighthead prop BJ Botha will start his first test after making his debut as a replacement for the injured Van der Linde.

In the team that trained on Tuesday, Fourie replaced Percy Montgomery at fullback, while Ruan Pienaar played scrumhalf. It is worth noting that neither Montgomery or Du Preez took an active part with the former struggling with a stomach infection and Du Preez battling an ear infection.

White had said on Saturday evening that he would consider Pienaar as a fullback option and he may still do if Du Preez is fit.

What does seem certain is that Solly Tyibilika’s time as an openside fetcher is up. Tyibilika should never have been picked in that role to start with and despite White emphatically stating that Tyibilika is the best he has got, it seems that White will choose three ball-carrying loose-forwards to counter the All Blacks in AJ Venter, Pierre Spies and Pedrie Wannenburg.

Andre Pretorius also ran at flyhalf with Wynand Olivier slotting in at outside centre.
