Former All Black star Jonah Lomu is set to start his first match of the season for North Harbour in Friday night’s Air New Zealand Cup match against Manawatu.
Lomu has appeared off the bench in Harbour’s two previous encounters, against Wellington and Auckland, but has had limited chances to impress.
Harbour coach Allan Pollock NewstalkZB that Lomu may get his starting chance in the final round of pool play this weekend with incumbent starting wing Viliame Waqaseduadua returning to Fiji for a family illness.
However, Pollock admits that at this stage no one quite knows what sort of form Lomu is in.
Pollock says that is still the big unknown because as yet the Harbour side have not manufactured any quality ball to give Lomu a decent crack.
Lomu is hoping to win a Super 14 contract off the back of his provincial season as he continues a storybook comeback following his life-saving kidney transplant operation.
