Jonah Lomu struggled in his first start for North Harbour, despite his side’s 28-6 win against Manawatu on Friday.
The former All Black winger never got any decent ball to run on to, but he never helped himself as he struggled to keep pace with his quicker team-mates.
Lomu is expected to return to the bench next weekend as Harbour challenge Canterbury for the Ranfurly Shield.
Harbour hardly looked like a team capable of upsetting Canterbury as they trailed 6-5 at half-time against one of New Zealand’s weakest teams. However, they rallied in the second half, scoring four tries and 23 unanswered points.
North Harbour – Tries: Anthony Tuitavaki (2), Rudi Wulf, Nick Williams, George Pisi. Penalty: Tusi.
