Eddie Jones’s Queensland Reds were thumped by the Western Force in Brisbane, while the Brumbies pipped the Tahs in Canberra.
Jones, who lost eight of his last nine tests in charge of the Wallabies, took over as Reds head coach a couple of months ago. In the build-up to the match he branded the Force a Reds ‘C’ team because 12 of the players had grown up in Brisbane.
Well the ‘C’ team embarrassed Jones and the Reds, thumping the hosts 32-6 in the opening round of the Australian Provincial Championship.
Former Wallabies Brendan Cannon and Matt Henjack enjoyed big games for the Force.
In Canberra Julian Huxley’s boot was the difference as the Brumbies won 14-13 against the Waratahs. Both teams scored one try.
