Jonny Wilkinson’s injury curse struck again when he hobbled off the field in Newcastle’s 20-19 win over Worcester.
The flyhalf hurt his right knee after 47 minutes as he was caught at the bottom of a ruck.
“I don’t think it’s too serious, but it’s too early to tell how bad it is,” said Falcons rugby director John Fletcher. “He got a twist and a bang on the knee when one of our players fell on him in the ruck. He’s a world-class player in a key position.”
The initial assessment of the injury suggests that Wilkinson has damaged his medial ligament, although he will undergo further tests on Saturday.
Wilkinson’s replacement, debutant Tim Visser, scored a last-minute try to snatch victory for the Falcons after they’d trailed 19-3 going into the final quarter.
