After much speculation, it has been confirmed that Marius Joubert will joining the Vodacom Cheetahs for the 2007 season.
With Vodacom Western Province deciding against the renewal of the former Springbok’s contract, there had been rumours that the Cheetahs and the Vodacom Blue Bulls were interested in his services. Earlier in the month, both unions denied this, but it appears as if Joubert will be heading up to Bloemfontein after all.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of joining the Cheetahs in their Super 14 campaign, and am sure that their coaching structure under Rassie will be of huge benefit to me,†he said.
Joubert began his career with Boland in 1999, and later moved to WP in 2002. The 27-year-old outside centre has not played a huge amount of rugby for the union over the past five years due to national duty and injuries, but has some fond memories of his tenure.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Western Province. It is a great set up to be a part of and I have formed solid friendships with the management and players. Western Province is a union with a great history and pride and it has been an honour to represent them over the years,†he said.
Joubert is currently recovering from a broken hand, which he sustained in the final game of the Vodacom Super 14.
